Bruce Springsteen- Nebraska

A haunting masterpiece of storytelling, mood and tension, I used to struggle with this album. Now I hear it for the brilliance that it is. Every song here is like a short Stephen King story, with an autumnal sadness that I find so captivating.

Worked from home for part of the day today so it was back to whatever vinyl came out of the moving box's.  First out:

Neil Young - Decade

Basically a greatest hits album for Neil Young for the period 1966 - 1976.  I have said before that some greatest hits albums (or double albums) should have been double (or triple) albums as a particular group has so many great songs they can't get them all into a single (or double) album.  This album is a triple album and (IMO) it has the reverse problem,.  Yes some very good songs (Mr. Soul, Southern Man, Cinnamon Girl, Old Man, Heart of Gold and the amazing Ohio (a top 10 all time non-rush song for me)) but their is a lot of songs I could care less about.  Basically you could just pack those onto 1 album and that would do it for me.  The rest is just filler (IMO).  Next out of the box:

Judas Priest - 5 Souls

This is an EP Priest released about the time they released Redeemer of Souls and it has (surprise) 5 songs that did not make it onto the album.  IMO their is a reason they did not get on the album - by Priests standards they are not very good.  Still, glad I have this EP.  Last out of the box for the day:

Guns N' Roses - Appetite For Destruction

Got this before anybody had really heard of the group.  I was in college at the time and my Saturday afternoon's consisted of going to a record store where I always seemed to pick up 2 or 3 albums and then a supermarket where I could get a 6 pack.  Then back to my college dorm room where I could order a pizza and then settle in with my new albums, a pizza and a 6 pack for the night.  One day I saw this and was like "The bands name seems cool, the album title sounds cool, the albums art work is good - guess I will gv either a shot".  Listened to it and was blown away.  One of my neighbors stopped by (it was well known that I was always picking up music on Saturdays and folks were interested in what I picked up) and he was like "Guns N' Roses?  What kind of a name is that?  I have never heard of them!".  I was like "You will here of them dude, they are amazing."  Played that album a ton at the time.  Some of the songs have been played to death, and the last 3 songs on side 2 I never have cared for but side 1 is excellent as is the first 3 songs on side 2.

Big statement here.  one that i don't agreee with.

i will say she WAS one of the greats.  all that whistle dog tone kinda blew that though.

Mick

Agreed. She obviously has a phenomenal voice. The whistle range stuff she’s known for can be a bit much for me though. I can’t listen to Emotions for that reason. I can only handle it in very small increments.

Sparks

Propaganda

Indiscreet

Big beat.

I Adore this band.  It's like if Zappa and queen had a kid.  and then said kid was raised by Weird Al.

the other thing i think of....cause i know his tastes......is how bad Sparks would annoy Segue.

i could hear him.

"this band gave me crabs"

:laugh2:

The way those three albums rhyme when spoken out loud actually delights me, sounds like a potential chorus 🤣

Mastodon- Emperor Of Sand

Crazy how once upon a time this was boring to my ears. Now I'm so in love with it I might actually consider having an ovary transplant just so I can get f***ed by it and have it's babies.
