Worked from home today so it was back to whatever vinyl came at random out of the moving box's.  First out:

Los Romeros - Telemann / Bach / Scarlatti / Loeillet / Dowland / Barrett / Clarke / Robinson

Bit of a mouthful of a title.  The group is a 4 piece that put out an album with works on it by the composers (active from the end of the 1500's to the middle 1700's) in the title.  Lots of guitars and lutes here.  Very enjoyable.  Next out of the box:

Heinrich Schutz - Psalmen Davids 1619

A work from a German classical composer who was active in the first half of the 1600's (a rough time to be alive - the horrific 30 years war was ravaging all Europe but esp. Germany at that time).  The composer was, according to the liner notes, a fervent Lutheran which no doubt influenced his musical creations.  Decent stuff.  Next out off the box:

Heinrich Schutz - Motets from Cantiones Sacrae

More classical.  Decent stuff.  Next out of the box:

Bach & Beethovan

A 2 record set of works by the composers which includes (anon other works) Beethovan's 5th symphony and Bach's Brandenburg Concerto # 2, 3 & 5.  Excellent.  Next out of the box:

Hendrix - Band of Gypsies

Live Hendrix recorded at the Fillmore East (NYC) New Years Eve 1969 - 70.  Very good.  Next out of the box:

Hendrix - Electric Laydyland

Its been years since I listened to this and man was I impressed.  Yes, Hendrix is amazing.  But its more than him.  The drum work from Mitch Mitchel and Buddy Miles was, at times, jaw dropping.  As I get older I get I enjoy / appreciate guitar work a bit less and drum work a bit more so there was lots to appreciate.  Plus Jack Cassidy on bass - the Jack Cassidy who played with Jefferson Airplane (and who I saw many years latter with the KBC band - an off shoot of the Airplane / Starship).  Plus Steve Windwood appears on the album as well.  An excellent album.  But the best for the day was still to come.  Last out of the box for the day:

The Who - Who's Next

The greatest rock album of all time??  Not many albums could legitimately argue they were better than this.  The one song that you never hear on the radio ("Gettin in Tune") is not trash and it mesh's perfectly into the next song ("Going Mobile").  So is it the greatest rock album of all time?  IMO  - yes.  With Zep IV in at #2.   Of course others on the TRF have far greater musical knowledge then I - so I might be wrong.  Also, keep in mind I like The Who, Zep I am not a big fan of.  So that might skew my thinking.   But even if you don't agree with me - come on, its one hell of an album.  Look at the songs on it:

Side 1

Baba O'Riley

Bargin

Love Ain't For Keeping

My Wife

Song is Over

Side 2

Gettin in Tune

Going Mobile

Blind Blue Eyes

Wont' Get Fooled Again.

Top that.

Alter Bridge- ABIII

Tremonti- Marching In Time

I really love Tremonti. At this point, I think they are the better band. However ABIII remains a peak album of the 2010s for me!

Now if only they could sort out the cluttered mixing issues

Alter Bridge- The Last Hero

I'm noticing more and more AB fans coming out the woodwork declaring love for this album. I'm glad, because I still absolutely adore this record. From start to finish, it might be my favourite.

Alter Bridge- Walk The Sky

Something about this album leaves me a little cold...its got all their brilliance but nothing particularly standout. And yet, I had a great time with this!

I wish every band I love had an album this great at the bottom of my list.

Mick

I had a roommate in college who was a huge Sparks fan.  I became one too.

Fun album.
