Am I listening to them or David Foster era C(s)hitcago? Song just goes nowhere. and they had the balls to segue into it from Xanadu on that year's tour I remeber playing a bootleg/sound board. Rocking to Xanadu then getting kicked in the balls. Mick

TheAccountant
I got a very nice record player (that had a built in AM / FM radio) in 1984 so when CD players came out I naturally (being a distrusting sort of person) viewed them as just a way to convince people to spend more $ and enrich big business. Something that I was not inclined to do (being a frugal sort of guy who also distrust big business or almost any sort). I had a perfectly good record player so why would I want to spend more $? Also everybody was saying CD's sounded better but I listened to them on a CD play a neighbor had at college and I did not think so. Plus in the early 90's the music that was coming out basically became unlistenable (thanks Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundguarden & thrash metal among others). So I had no great drive to pick up a CD player. The reverse actually. Kept waiting for albums to make a come back. Finally about 2005 I bough a CD player. I think a Rush compilation titled Chronicles was the fist CD I bought. BTW - I loved that record player and made it last. During the pandemic I finally burned out both the motor for the turntable and the radio. Tried to get them re[aired but no luck so I bough a replacement turntable. 37 years of good service they gave me. To this day if I have a choice I will purchase vinyl. CD's are my second choice. Forget MP3's - I know they exist but thats about it.

I've seen cassettes and song file converters being sold lately as well at my local indie record store that was in my nearby town of Claremont for years and recently moved further east in Montclair. Been to the new one once and the environment and vibe is not the same with the crowd of college students there regarding the prestigious colleges in Claremont.

Sort of yes. Its not like the old days where every mall had at least one record store and those stores were loaded with bins full of records - both old classics and new. Plus a smaller selection of classical music. Not seeing that around where I live -yet. So yes, but its not as much as I would like.

Then Zappa released his You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore series and it was not going to get a vinyl release - so the decision was made for me. So about May/June of 1988 was my first cd purchase But even after I finally bought a cd, I still bought vinyl for another 2 years before I went entirely cd in my purchases. As far as I can ascertain my last vinyl purchase before I gave up on vinyl was didn't really buy vinyl again until 1996 Load may have been the last CD purchase I made before I moved on to vinyl for physical media about 6-7 years ago along with PUSA's self titled debut from 1995. Streamed it a number of times before, though. Only Metallica I own on vinyl thus far is MoP. Edited January 3, 2023 by invisible airwave
