Saturday night:  One of my best friends drove from Cincinnati to Florida for his annual vacation.

He's 61, and he still thinks that he's invincible.

I am numb watching the damage in Ft. Myers and along the Gulf.  The graphic shots of the Sanibel Causeway was heartbreaking.

I had two tornadoes occur within 5 miles of the house. One smashed into Perry Airport, roughly 1.5 miles West of me, damaging over 40 planes and wrecking an above ground fuel tank.  The storm then jumped the highway intovan apartment complex, bringing down trees and damaging cars and buildings.  The second tornado caused damage in parts of West Hollywood.  Somehow my immediate neighborhood dodged another bullet, showing minimal damage. I had one big palm branch blow over which needed to be cut from the trunk, and a few palm fronds blown off, along with some small (less than four feet) tree branches blown down.  These have been heaped into two small piles, bundled and tied and placed by the street for pickup with the bulk trash in Saturday.  A number of houses up and down the block have piles of trash by the street, bulk pickup going to be real busy Saturday.

Dear Governor,

Thank you for flying us to Martha's Vineyard so we would avoid the hurricane. The people were nice and the crab cakes were awesome. Lovely weather here, too bad you couldn't join us. We'd send postcards, but your postal service is pretty f***ed at the moment.

Sincerely,

The Martha's Vineyard refugee crew.

P.S. You're still a dick. Enjoy your f***ed up state.

Same goes for Rick "not the lead singer of Midnight Oil" Scott.  All 16 in their party and state voted against aid because of their "socialism derangement syndrome" which is petty hatred for anything even slightly to the left of Hitler.  A black woman playing a flute they didn't even know existed until now is more of a threat to these triggered snowflakes.

While you can get crab cakes on the Vineyard, they're not a big local delicacy there.  Lobster would be a better example of something you would want to get there if you weren't from around here.

Is this thread about a hurricane that has killed at least a couple dozen people and caused an enormous amount of damage to parts of Florida?  Or the politics of Florida?

It's about Lizzo.   Which is a pretty good indicator that DeSantis is handling things well.

I'm happy to report that we in Summerville, SC didn't suffer much damage at all, thank The Lord!

It was all good in DFW as well, though we could surely use the rain. It was all clear as far as the redneck riviera in Gulport MS as well, a spot I highly recommend.

My mom who used to live in Kissimmee has to find a new place to live because parts of the retirement village where she lived including her unit is now uninhabitable. Hopefully she can salvage some items but as of today she hasn't been able to get in to her place.

Oh, shoot!  The main thing is that she's ok , but that sounds rough.  Wishing her the best in dealing with this .
