Savatage (metal/hard rock) 10. Within Temptation (blur the lines between hard rock and metal as well. Possibly the best female singer in the hard rock/metal genre. Think Kate Bush mixed with Pat Benetar. Iron Maiden are big big BIG fans) Special mention goes to Journey Segue i wanted to put APP but they are kinda stretching it to me. cause they do so much to just be AOR/melodic rock. not faulting you for the pick though at all. Within temptation. weird pick too, lol Mick I picked WT because since THOE, they have really been dipping into broader styles. I'd put Hydra, Resist and The Unforgiving in hard rock/metal and a lot of the choruses have much in common with big eighties rock bands/artists. Not saying they have an AOR bent, but I see them these days closer to hard rock bands like Alter Bridge or Shinedown than I do symphonic metal acts like Epica or Nightwish. APP is definitely a stretch but I feel they don't really belong anywhere! Edited July 11, 2022 by Segue Myles

My first and so far only time seeing the band. There's no one better suited to the very unique position than Adam. Vocally he can do anything in the Queen catalogue justice, without sounding trying to mimic Freddie. There were even a couple songs I thought he sang perhaps better than Freddie did on the record (Who Wants To Live Forever comes to mind). Throughout it all though he makes it very clear that he is just a massive Queen fan, like anyone in the audience, who's been given the incredible opportunity to help Brain and Roger keep this music alive and bring it to other fans around the world. He never once comes anywhere close to stepping on Freddie's legacy, and that's what makes it work. As a performer he's exactly as theatrical and bold as Queen's music requires, but as a person he's incredibly humble and respectful of the situation. I do hope to see them again. Yep EP that’s exactly how we ( my fiancée and myself ) feel about Adam Lambert 👍🙂 He’s the perfect fit for all the reasons you listed. 😎

Journey are terrific, I have the first five Steve Perry albums. Not listened to much before or after! Steve Perry is one of my favourite vocalists. Other AOR bands I love are Strangeways and Trillion. Strangeways- Native Sons might be my favourite AOR album of all time. I could also put Bon Jovi in the top ten as well.
bluefox4000
My fav AOR album is still Vital signs by Survivor. No one's made one anywhere near as perfect as that one. i was thinking other ones that didn't make my list (top 10 i mean( Boston Kansas (though i never mentally file them in this genre anyway for some reason) Huey Lewis (he for sure goes with melodic rock/pop whatever) Strangeways (Native Sons at least) REO Speedwagon Night Flight Orchestra Fleetwood Mac (i really do count the 1975-87 period in this) Saga Night Ranger Bon Jovi FM Eclipse just some Others Mick Edited July 12, 2022 by bluefox4000

Talking of influences IIRC it was Boston’s amazing ground breaking self titled album released in ‘76 which inspired Journey .. or at least Journey’s management / record label LOL ! .. to switch direction away from their earlier jazz-fusion-Prog instrumental , Santana inspired roots. Same with Alter Bridge , I brought their ‘ The Last Hero ‘ CD but never got around to following it up. I do however like Myles Kennedy’s work with Slash

You like a lot of old school metal and thrash, so I think you'd enjoy The Crusade and Silence In The Snow (though for many this is the weakest, I think it's a fine entry point). These two don't have a lot of screaming, which I know isn't for everyone. For modern proggish melodic metal, Shogun is one of the best. Scream heavy, but huge choruses and epic songwriting.

Not listening to anything particularly new, just immersing myself in bands I know and love so much, and discovering new (to me) bands. I'm curious for the metalheads here, what are your absolute favourite metal bands (every genre counts). My list is: 1. Iron Maiden 2. Trivium 3. Judas Priest 4. Blind Guardian 5. In Flames 6. Rhapsody Of Fire 7. Lacuna Coil 8. Nightwish 9. Mastodon 10. Saxon Some of my all time favourite bands have dropped a little (for the moment) on this list. Try and stick to ten! Okay I was smoking something horrible that day. This is me rambling because I am bored. Here are my top ten metal bands: 1. Iron Maiden 2. Trivium 3. Rhapsody Of Fire 4. Blind Guardian 5. In Flames 6. Savatage 7. Testament 8. Avenged Sevenfold 9. Judas Priest 10. Paradise Lost =10. Mastodon I can safely say that I think these bands speak to me more now than Nightwish, Lacuna Coil, Saxon. Love those bands though I do. This year is all about really digging into my favourite genre. I've loved metal so much, largely because I have a lot more time to sink my teeth into my favourite artists. The only reason JP is "low" is because I'm dumb and thought I'd already added them. I love these bands very equally. The biggest shock for me is how easy it was to erase Nightwish and Lacuna Coil. For nearly two decades they were my absolute favourite bands. They've faded a lot for me. Then I thought I posted ten but actually it was eleven so I cheated 😂 Edited August 10, 2022 by Segue Myles
