Yeah, on my worst days I’m an atheist, on my best days I’m agnostic. I do really dig their studio recording of Winter Wonderland.

Either way, the concept of Christian metal is really f***ing stupid.

6. Rush

7. Steelheart

8. Warrant

9. Firehouse

10. Nelson

I don't know what's more suspect, the fact that Nelson's not higher or that Faster Pussycat is nowhere to be found.

Iron Maiden

Judas Priest

Opeth

Motorhead

Dream Theater

Savatage

Budgie (borderline metal but a hell of a lot heavier than most bands!)

I didn't include Rush .... I wouldn't consider them as metal ...... more hard rock. Otherwise you gotta include Zeppelin, Purple, Rainbow and a load more hard rock or classic rock outfits. But hey..... that's just my opinion.

Don't worry Rainbow are in mine too. I kept Purple out because Gillan would have a fit! And Zeppelin too because Robert Plant would sue me!

Seventh Son is a beast of an album.

I debated putting Rush on my list. I love them but don't always know if I deem them metal. I also ranked Nightwish and Lacuna Coil outside my top five because they are honestly not what I think of when I specifically want a "metal" fix, but they are metal.

But these days, I think of Iron Maiden as my favourite band.

There would be so many other bands on my list if i was playing more loosely (to me) with the definition (a good example is Queen.  i don't consider them metal.  BUUUUT......i could see it i guess. 70's Queen only though.

Mick

Oh if I were to count those two you all know exactly where they would be on my list, lol. Dream what? Judas who?

I love Bolt Thrower! Not played them in years, I must now!

Karl has moved on after the end of Bolt Thrower with a band called Memoriam. I like them a lot. similar to Bolt Thrower but more hard core seeping through. And not every song is about war. More contemporary social topics as well.

Mick

(I mean, it’s not like Halford wouldn’t put Queen over Priest and Petrucci wouldn’t put Rush over DT…) :scared:

I think Rainbow are metal.

IMO there are several bands that are in that grey area of .... 'are they heavy metal or are they hard rock?'

In Rainbow's case the one album which is probably the most metal is Rising. The other Dio material are to a lesser degree but lean towards hard rock/classic rock. The post-Dio material moves away from metal.

Look, it's all subjective. My mother would classify anything with an electric guitar riff as heavy metal!!
