Vapor Trails tour opener was 20 years ago

Just realized that today is the 20th anniversary of the gig in Hartford opening the tour. I had just moved home from Utah 3 days earlier. Getting to this concert was the thing that made me stick to the move this year. For 2 previous years I had been trying and canceling at the last minute. Fun night!

I dislocated my shoulder going nuts at the Show in Minneapolis.

I also remember driving by Rochester, going north….and there were three long vapor trails from jet planes in the sky.   The triangle was near perfect.   True story!

How did they sound at that show? Any specific memories?

I remember Geddy in his initial address saying "It's been...quite long enough!" and also dedicating Between Sun And Moon to John Entwistle, who had died a day or two earlier. Alex's rant was just him saying something like "Barberina" over and over again.  A few weeks later I saw them in Mansfield and the sound quality was much better. Then I saw them at Mohegan Sun at the end of the American leg.  That 1 blew me away because I grew up 2 minutes from there. In a million years I would have never imagined Rush playing Uncasville Connecticut.  Growing up that area was the site of a factory that made parts for nuclear reactors.  The Indians offered to drop their lawsuit against the town if they could have that land and build the casino.

Let's go back in time and relive Lifeson's fist fight with the Florida police as well!

Still don't know what Ah yes to yes to oh to yes means.

Perhaps these are connected points in a conversation (interpersonal & reflexive) or a philosophical internal dialogue (intrapersonal & self-reflective).  "Ah, yes.  I see your point.  Hmmm, yes."  Or perhaps it depicts moments of numinous awe while contemplating those bonfire lights reflecting in the lake of sky.  Okay, that last sentence was a wee bit silly.

Interpretations will vary.  The artistic license of the listener at play.

Was a fantastic tour. Amazing and energy charged set list. We saw them first in Las Vegas (20th Row Center) and it was a blast. It was the first Rustour.com meetup I went to and I made some life long friends. Great time.

Then we saw them down here in West Palm Beach (12th Row Alex Side) and that show is a top 3 Rush show for me. Pure fire from the opening E Chord of Tom Sawyer to the very last note of Working Man. And it was a very humid evening.....they sizzled. I remember Secret Touch being simply mind-blowing that night. One of the best jams I had ever sen from them live....it was that intense.

I had pretty much stopped listening to vapor trails by that point but something about seeing some of the songs live fired it back up for me. I had just gotten back to Connecticut and wasn't working yet so I found myself going on long, wandering drives playing it  start to finish.

Well that's a little deeper than my musings for sure.  I just thought it was Ged's version of Journey's Na-Na-Na-Na-Na-Na.

Saw them in Hartford, Saratoga, Homdel,, Philadelphia and the Meadowlands that year. Hadn't planned on that many but the album was/is great and so was the set.

Hard to believe it's been that long.

Ask Pye Dubois.  While you're at it, ask him what "the river" means.

That bit [the river] was not part of the lyrics initially.  It was added after the track was first laid down at Le Studio.  It was determined a little something of the vocal sort was needed to season that portion of the song.  Eyes turn to Neil for the solution.  Neil thinks further about The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.  And what is a central feature of this story?  Why, the mighty Mississippi, of course.  The river!

Never heard that story before, thanks!

I think Pye's original lyrical idea was called "Louis The Warrior". Lnce it was retitled the Tom Sawyer references were added.

Ask Pye Dubois.

Pye's line from the poem is "Say yes to yes", which is more of a clear message.  But Geddy's adjustment sings much better.  I always figured the "ahh" represents the elation and relief one feels from letting go and opening up to "yes"
