Yes and no, respectively. People who lay claim to being civil libertarians can't have it both ways. You can't say the state can't prohibit same sex couple from marrying but the state can lock up people accused of crimes until a jury can decide if they "did it." You're still talking about holding people in custody based on what they've been accused of doing. If I may, your beef is with how certain people are sentenced for crimes they are convicted of committing, and the prison system's method of determining how a convict can accumulate credit towards his or her sentence. If someone convicted of murder gets out and kills another person, you're really complaining about whether the murderer should have ever been released after the first conviction. Someone who is accused of committing a serious crime, with no prior record, has done nothing, at least in the eyes of the court. And you're also arguing for some version of a "3 strikes," law, which many people with a liberal bent don't like. But a term of incarceration isn't supposed to begin with your arrest. Principled Man Posted June 14, 2022 Author Share Posted June 14, 2022 A close call in Duncanville, Texas. Some nutjob with a handgun walked right into the local fieldhouse/rec center. He was shot dead by cops before he could shoot anyone. No one was injured. Staff members were on the ball, and the cops were there in two minutes to take him down. Daddy sponsored his purchase of the gun. People knew about him, people helped him. Then he went to Madison, Wisconsin right afterwards, but decided not to kill people there.
