Cool - hey, have you checked out the youtube reactor known as Phil Zero? He started out reacting ro "Z", then "Dust to Dust" and has worked through about 3 other songs. Yes, parts of his reactions involve "o wow, I like that!" and other standard stuff you might not care for but he also does have some interesting points as he used to play in a metal core band so he actually knows a thing or 2 about music. If you have not checked out his reviews of The Warning you might want to. He does not get a ton of views but I enjoy his reactions.

The name sounds familiar so I may have seen some of his reactions before. There's a section over on The Warning's Patreon where a few fans post every reaction possible to The Warning. Seriously, these couple of people really need some help 😄 so I probably have clicked on a few of his reactions before. My issue with music reactions is that I can only watch them in small doses. Even the good ones annoy the hell out of me when they pause and talk. EDIT: I do know this reactor. In fact he joined the Patreon a few weeks ago because of how impressed he was with The Warning's fan being so kind to him in his reactions. It took me seeing what he looked like to remember him. The scream during Apologize sounds like Pau to me. It has a very similar sound to the scream she does live for Evolve. I can't quite picture Dany doing that with her voice nor summoning the anger to scream like that since she's the happiest and nicest person in the world. The other song I believe is Sharks where it sounds like Pau is doing the part that has a hip hop style delivery to it. Sounds like they decided to go hard and heavy with a lot of this new stuff and there is no Pau ballad like on the other albums. After my first listen to the album, I am happy to report that Pau does sing the verses on Sharks and the pre-chorus on Consume (and drops an F-bomb in the process!!!) 1

Yes, this is the first time they've swore in a song. Dany is signing backing vocals here too. So, they drop the F-bomb together as sisters which is really cute 😄 At first I wasn't sure about them getting on Wacken and some other metal festivals this summer because I wasn't sure if they quite fit or not. But this new album is heavy as hell and these new songs will fit perfectly at these more metal based festivals. This is also their most experimental album. Apologize is my current favorite. They almost lean prog rock on that song.
thizzellewashington Posted June 29, 2024 Author Posted June 29, 2024 The new album isn't bad. I don't like it as much as Error. The writing and playing is fantastic as always but the songs feel kind of over-workshopped and less organic to me. Like they had too much outside writing/producing help and it makes it kind of generic-sounding. Some good songs still though. 1

The band said that since they were recording it between tour dates that they didn't have a lot of time to go over every little detail like they did with Error. So they just went with what they felt in the moment when recording and let it happen. I don't think the outside writers hurt them too much. The band wanted to do that to get out of their comfort zone. You can tell by listening to these songs that both musically and lyrically it's still very much the band who wrote them. The outside writers were probably the ones who suggested that they do new things on the album. Also, Anton Delost, the producer, said that the band wanted more distortion and effects but he had to tell them no and he had to scale some of that stuff back. There's enough experimentation on the album that I think it prevents it from sounding generic. The Warning as always brought everything they had to this and didn't half ass anything.

Mind you, I have now only listed to it once. Some Rush albums took decades to grow on me so I will give this a lot of additional listens - they have built up a lot of good will with their first 3 albums. For me QOTMS is their best album followed basically by a tie between XXI Century Blood and Error. If I really had to pick between XXI Century Blood and Error I might go with XXI Century Blood, but its basically a tie. Those 3 albums just don't have a bad song on them. Heck, they don't have a filler song. Heck, everything is excellent on those 3 albums. This album would be behind them (based on my 1 listen). Automatic Sun is very good. 6 Feet Deep I like. Sick has gown on me and its ok. HYCAD & More I don't care for. A lot of the other songs are interesting - but I very much agree with you about the outside writing / producing help. Honestly, I started to notice that with Error which is why I might (perhaps) rank XXI Century Blood a tiny bit ahead of it. I really want to give those others songs second and 3rd listens (and likely many more listens). Their is some good stuff there. Parts of the album give me a Nu-Metal vibe which I don't care for. I am more a traditional metal (think Priest & Maiden), power metal (think Blind Guardian / Halloween / Unleash The Archers), prog metal (think Symphony X) and symphonic metal (think Nightwish) metal fan. So the Nu-Metal vibe I get it not super appealing. I defiantly want to give this album another shot though. I agree with you - their is some interesting song writing. They also did a very good job putting the album together - the whole is much better than the sum of the parts. Great respect to them for that. Thats always a plus with me if a band can construct an album so it fits together well - and they did that here. Overall, my initial reaction is not bad. But not close to the level of their first 3 albums.
J2112YYZ Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 Pau has the nicest "open the pit" request I've ever heard 😄 1

Not only that but they have a song out that they did together with Band Maid. I may not care for Bad Maid's attire and their vocals don't (normally - this song is a big exception) do much for me but the song is fire. Band maid musically is my cup of tea - even more than The Warning. Excellent Power Metal - I hope they influence The Warning and not the other way around (at least based on the latest album). Excellent song. Band Maid (& Lovebites as well) are excellent Japanese groups that play music which is my cup of tea. Excellent collaboration between The Warning & Band Maid (IMO).

The string arrangement is new but the actual studio version was recorded three years ago. By the way, they are releasing this full show song by song on their YouTube channel. The sound, production and the band's performance above all else is amazing. Fun fact, all three had the flu during this show. Edited September 30, 2024 by J2112YYZ

P-Tor Posted November 1, 2024 Posted November 1, 2024 I saw them for the 4th time last night in Toronto and they were amazing as usual. It was the last show of the 2024 tour and was notable because they played "Apologize" for the first time. 2

They had been playing the song at soundchecks so eventually it was going to get played. The main issue with the song was that Dany plays the chorus with a slide on her finger but she had zero experience as to how to use one before this. So they had to practice the song a little more than usual so she could get used to not using the finger with the slide on it during the parts of the song where it wasn't needed. I'm sure Pau needed a little more practice with doing the screams too so she didn't accidentally blow out her voice since that's not something she usually does besides the big scream during Evolve. Plus, seriously, why would you want to argue with such a sweetheart like Dany? What are you? Some kind of vile, miserable monster? 😄 I searched this thread assuming someone had posted this. I'm still only scratching the surface of this band's output but this song is my favorite so far, especially this version. 2

Just a handful of songs, I barely have time to listen to music these days. What's impressive is the amount of detail their songs, both musically and lyrically -- QOTMS was released six years ago when they were aged 18, 16 and 13, and there's some serious song craft going on there. Of the songs I've heard so far, Ugh is the best example of that. The Error album is right there too, especially lyrically. 3
