Problems with posting

Recommended Posts

Wednesday afternoon, if all goes as scheduled, we'll be shutting down for an hour or two to convert the site from http to https, or in layman's terms, make the board compatible with today's internet security standards. We'll make the switch, test things out, and if everything on the board works like it's supposed to, we'll reopen and finally NOT be the last website in the universe to not make this upgrade.

If we don't like the results, we'll abandon it and seriously consider upgrading the board software.

Does this mean we can put videos in without taking the S out of the URL?

I've had to do that with Youtube media links I post here.

We'll see what happens after the change.

Transitioning to and identifying as a new entity is problematic. People are resistant to change.

Turns out we didn't need to shut the board down to do the switch to https, that task is now done. But it will take up to a few hours for the change to happen on the user end. You might see a brief period of downtime, you might not.

But when it's done -- and I'm already starting to see it on my end -- we should see the lock icon appear in the browser address bar, and if your browser shows it, https at the beginning of our URL. Right now I have the main page showing that, but none of the forums once you're in them. That should all switch over during the next few hours.

The question will be, will links to other threads on the board still work, and will YouTube videos that have been posted still work. I'll put samples below so we can all test them out as the switch happens.

Also, very important, if you have this site bookmarked, you'll need to delete your old bookmark and make a new one once you're seeing the https and the lock symbol in your address bar. Otherwise you'll continue to connect via the old way.

It's also a good idea to clear your browser cache and cookies.

Okay, we had to revert back to http because, unfortunately, some things in this software just didn't translate over, like the reply box and, most importantly, the admin control panel. Kinda need those things.

So the next step would be to upgrade the software. Yikes. But, long overdue.

FWIW, I've been getting a ton of those 404 messages over the last few days.

I've not been seeing as many here (I see the board the same way that everyone else does). Are you seeing them just in your normal browsing, or when doing specific things? Right now, simple searches and View New Content will get you a 404.

Yesterday was a weird day with us trying to implement https, seeing it fail and having to switch back again. Lots of 404s and slowdowns during that whole process for much of the day yesterday.

I usually see it when I hit "More Reply Options," while posting (I mostly use Microsoft Edge). I'll also get it when going from, say, SOCN back to the General forums.

More Reply Options loads right up for me. It's good to get other people's experiences because what I'm seeing is not necessarily what others are seeing. Right now for me the board is running pretty good except for the search and new content functions. Search by itself is a big deal, though.

Why would you ever leave SOCN in the first place?

So did I - i was in SOCN and when I tried to exit, it wouldn't move. So I got out, tried to get back in, even using my browser and I got a 404. Wouldn't even let me in, so I had to leave it alone for quite some time. Having said that, it happened in another area - Random Samples (can't remember the thread title). I also get stuck so to speak just before 8:30am every morning.

So I can discuss why Amon Duul II really sold out after Yeti?
