This requires a little prologue to make sense: As I have mentioned somewhere before I live in an apartment, which is shared between 3 (myself included). Lately there has been a bit of change ups and that stresses me, because I'm not exactly the kind of person to be inclusive of everybody. Not that I hate everybody, but I also don't go pretending to love all mankind. This is just to give you a sense of how I feel about my domestic situation. The latest edition to this apartment is a weird looking hippie guy. Seems a little off but nothing serious, apart from that he smells like a heavy smoker and doesn't look like he cares much about personal hygiene. Luckily he's rarely at home.

Okay, fast forward to today.

Without any notice his older brother comes by late in the evening to use his brothers (my hippie flatmate) room who just had a baby. Apparently his older brother needed a baby free night. Understandable. Still would be the courteous thing to let me know beforehand. But I let it slide. Which turned out to be a bad idea. If my hippie flatmate is weird, his brother takes the price. He was awake the whole night kind of mumbling to himself and keeping me awake. My sunday is probably going to be crappy. It was just a weird situation suddenly having a complete stranger in the house, and I probably should have put my foot down, but I'm so damn passive aggressive that I'd rather poison his beer than taking the confrontation. That'll likely take 10 years off my life.

Ohhh, that sounds challenging . . . . but in order to avoid similar or longer situations in the future, are you able to have a talk along the lines of, " you're the new guy so we wanted to let you know we usually . . . . x, y, z. . . . (let housemates know when weird older bros are coming for the night, etc.) ? Might be worth it, even if it's a bit awkward. I feel for you; your description of the brother mumbling to himself the whole night is very vivid! :hug2:

I've already come up with a new house rule: It's okay to have people over when you're there yourself, of course, but if you're lending your room out to someone you need to clear it with those who live there. Seems like the right thing to me.

I wrote the guy who owns the apartment and happens to be a good friend of mine voicing my concerns, and he told me that if it became something he should deal with I should let him know. That calmed me down and the situation resolved itself.

Oh, and I actually had a wonderful sunday in spite of my shitty saturday night :)

Allergies. And waking up with a fricking sinus headache because of them.

I hate allergies. I'm beginning to feel my eyes itch a little when I'm out. My allergy is grass but I guess it hasn't spiked yet, since no one is out mowing their lawns yet. I don't know why it is, but it feels like everybody waits for the worst day to do that.

Wasn't aware that allergies can cause sinus headaches. I'll keep and eye out for that.

Okay, just quickly googled it. I've had it before in conjunction with sinusitis. Hurts like hell.

When my sinus headaches are bad (like it was this morning) it's incapacitating. So much for all the things I was doing to get done today :(

Anybody ever have your bank open a credit card in your name without even telling you? Without you even applying for it?

Wow, no. Our credit union calls sometimes, trying to get us to take out one with them but I haven't done it yet. I was curious after you posted this, as to whether they could just issue one to us, and I found these two links, I don't know if they might be helpful or not. The main information is that it is illegal for the bank to do that if you didn't consent, but in order to meet sales goals, etc., some banks have done it anyway. Wells Fargo is being taken to court for it in California. You should definitely talk to your bank. :)

I didn't think that was legal.

And I don't see how it can even be activated without permission.

Interesting...well, what happened was that they offered a different type of checking account- supposedly "preferred". They asked me over the phone if I wanted to 'upgrade' to that, said it didn't cost anything, so I said, "Umm, okay." I didn't fill out any paperwork or anything.

They did not tell me that this type of bank account included a new credit card account along with it. And now I find out, after having it for a year and never using it once, that there is an annual fee for the credit card. I'm out $79 now, that I have to pay before I can close it.

So yeah, I'm a little bit angry now.

Anyway, thank you for those links.

BJ, I would call the bank and fight that fee. Especially when they DID tell you that it "didn't cost anything." It has been my experience that if you challenge a fee, they will waive it in your favor rather than lose a long-time customer.

Yes, I think places can be kind of sneaky now! Sounds like what happened to my husband at Macy's. We went to apply for a car loan last summer when our van died and the credit check showed we had supposedly just opened an American Express card with some weird charge limit. WTF ?? Turns out my husband was buying like 2 shirts at Macy's and they said, " We'll take 15 % off today if you open a Macy's account." He thought it was just a normal store card he OK'd and it turned out to be this weird American Express/Macy's card with all kinds of contingencies.
