The reaction to the Rittenhouse trial.

The video evidence was enough that a trial should never have been brought, but the statements by the State’s witnesses’ made it even more clear. Still we have media and politicians making basic misstatements about both the facts of the case and the law, we have uneducated idiots bad mouthing the Judge, and we have racist ideologues pushing for more unrest.

I happen to have some experience with seeing Judges doing their work and this guy was a joke from the get go. No attempt to be impartial at all and whining about having cameras in the court. Guess he didn't want to have everyone see how he works, not the first time he has been called out for inappropriate actions in his courtroom.

The fix was in from the start, no way was he going to be charged. They used the same jury consultant that helped pick jurors in the OJ trial. Rittenhouse is being called a hero and offered jobs by idiot Representatives who are too stupid to get out of the rain. The sad thing is this just fuels the perception that vigilante actions are ok. Just like shooting someone who is running down the street because you think you have the right to do so. If Rittenhouse had been a person of color and he ran towards those officers with an assault weapon, he wouldn't be here. No wonder our country is in such a mess, hard to believe in justice when it seems to be a privilege for a certain group of people. :finbar:

That’s certainly a take. Being a lawyer and not crazy, I have a bit of a different one. First off, Schroeder was a democrat appointee…I know that you might not have known that because the media virtually only reports on what party appointed a judge when they don’t like a decision AND s/he was appointed by a republican. Schroeder has a very good reputation (or at least he did before the leftists and the media defamed him as you are doing). Also, Rittenhouse was charged, even though he very clearly should not have been. Schroeder would have been well within his authority to: 1. Dismiss the case after the State rested; 2. Order a mistrial for repeated violations by the prosecutors; 3. Enter a directed verdict as no jury could reasonably find Rittenhouse guilty. He gave a ton of leeway to the prosecution for evidence that should not have been admitted like the AI enhanced video which even the software creator even said should not be used as key evidence. I have not heard any non-leftist lawyer say that Schroeder was biased or that his decisions weren’t reasonable…even the liberal ones were largely in favor of how he handled the trial.

I suspect that you’ve let emotion and media lies and misreporting cloud your judgment into a determination that is supposed to be made impartially upon facts.

The idea that Schroeder was out of line with Binger is incorrect. Before trial, Schroeder indicated Binger could not question Rittenhouse about statements he made a couple weeks before the shooting about wishing he had his gun when talking about rioters. If Binger truly thought something Rittenhouse said on direct examination required reconsideration of that ruling, the correct procedure would have been to ask to be seen at sidebar and inform the judge that he thought the defendant had opened the door to a topic previously ruled inadmissible. Schroeder could then have considered Binger's point, and ruled on it. What you DO NOT do is take it upon yourself to determine that the line of questioning is now fair game.

As for Binger commenting on Rittenhouse's pretrial silence, Schroeder was wrong to say that's the been the law of the US for 40 years that a prosecutor can't bring that up. It's been the law of the US for 60 years.

Finally, the trial was about whether Rosenbaum, Huber and Grosskreutz were "victims." Deciding whether to allow Binger to call them victims when that is what the jury was being asked to decide was a no-brainer.

Given the circumstances and facts, sure seems like the Arbery killers are gonna get convicted at some level.

I'll enjoy every minute watching the news coverage.* I hope they get curbed in prison then burn in hell.**

*I have formed my opinion without examining all the facts.

**Metaphorically speaking.

Broke out part of a tooth while feasting last night, checking my dental insurer for a dentist as I haven't been to one in years. No pain or discomfort, just a hole in the bottom, not affecting eating. Crap, more expenditures!

Wife just broke drain in bathroom sink. Now in all fairness she was cleaning the drain but was using a toothbrush so vigorously that she snapped the chrome seal off of the plastic causing water to pour underneath. Guess I'm running to the hardware store. It could be worse. At least it will look like new...

Well past sunset, barely any light in the sky, the first big snowfall has started, and people are driving around with no lights on..... :rage:

It's like they can't remember how to drive in the snow here, had our first good storm and dozens of accidents. There was a truck that got hit with a huge chunk of ice, shattering the windshield. Clear off the ice and snow on your roof too dummies!

My dog peed on my freshly mopped kitchen floor...just after I brought her back in from a walk where she peed outside.

Floor was too clean and devoid of all scent marking it as her territory. She was just reestablishing ownership.

Still a properly trained dog shouldn't do that. A puppy?

Sounds more like a cat than a dog. Cats think they own the world.

If corroborated, these claims could be very costly to Amazon.

If there was a tornado WARNING a facility that size employing that many people should have shelter in place protocols. You don’t want people fleeing in cars, that is much more dangerous because tornado warnings have very short lead times. A tornado WARNING is issued when a tornado is observed or the signature is observed on RADAR. A tornado WATCH is issued often and hours in advance, the problem is a tornado often never materializes. The WARNING means something is confirmed take immediate shelter, a WATCH means something may potentially happen.

All the way around. The management is saying no one said anything about firing. The workers say otherwise. He said/she said.

What its going to come down to is was the order shelter in place or keep working.

Had one of the most disrespectful audiences at a movie theater in just over a decade. I never had this problem with most Marvel movies but the Spider Man audience were talking through as if they're clever and feel special knowing who is referenced. One pointed out "It's him!" loudly and I wanted to tell him to F off.
