Moving Pictures I like the fact you’ve got the under-rated GUP, P/G at No.2 which in the recent past had been my No.3 ! :-)However it looks like we differ a little bit on our liking or not of T4E & HYF ! ;-) Give T4E another listen it’s quite good ! jnoble
Just my 2 cents but I've always been of the opinion that the debut album should not be included in any of these rankings specifically because Neil was not with the band yet

I never listen to the debut LP and only listen to live versions of tracks from it which feature Neil. ( No offense intended to the playing or memory of John Rutsey it’s just Neil being so important to the magic of Rush )

Rush Didact
"Name the worst back-to-back releases" would definitely be a contentious thread. But the answer is clear: TFE and VT. Yeah, contentious alright, because VT is one of the best albums the band ever released.

Yeah, contentious alright, because VT is one of the best albums the band ever released. It's so good that they slunk back to the album eleven years later with their tails between their legs and tried to change it.Definitely the best album, ever.lol Edited February 17, 2022 by Weatherman
Rush Didact
Hideous production doesn't negate brilliant songwriting. VT has the finest, most evocative and most powerful lyrics Neil ever wrote.
goose
Hideous production doesn't negate brilliant songwriting. VT has the finest, most evocative and most powerful lyrics Neil ever wrote.:goodone: But then, not everyone digs lyrics, and the harsh production does make it a challenging listen for 60 minutes. Still, song for song it's a strong album.
Blue J
Say five years ago, I would have been able to rank all of them. But I just can’t do it. 1976-‘81 of course populates the higher altitudes in general- but Hold Your Fire is top three…Clockwork Angels firmly within the top seven or so. Presto and even more so Roll the Bones, I like more than most. Albums I like at least more than I used to are Test for Echo and Vapor Trails. But they’re both still in the bottom half, and T4E likely at the bottom. (Fair to say I like Vapor Trails a LOT more than I used to. Might crack the top half). Not sure if I'm starting to lose it (cue the Signals reference) due to getting old, that I am on a drinking break, or that cannabis is now legal here. Rush Didact
Hold Your Fire (High Water) No Time Stand Still? No Lock and Key? No Mission? No Prime Mover? No Force Ten? No Turn the Page? I love the variety of opinions about Rush's music. Never in a million years would I have chosen High Water as the best song on HYF...

I love the variety of opinions about Rush's music. Never in a million years would I have chosen High Water as the best song on HYF...Not the best, just the one I listen to the most. I like its rhythm and sentiment. If I want upbeat RUSH, HYF isn't an album I go to anymore.
