Angels And Airwaves Are At It Again! Tom Is So "Automatic!" LIFEFORMS! A Melodic 80's Pop Masterpiece! "Euphoria" "Tom Sawyer?"

I know there are a lot of Blink 182 and Angels And Airwaves Haters on here but that doesn't scare me!

Ever so often Tom can write a masterpiece.

I think "Enema Of The State" is a killer record. Having Janine on the cover is the icing on the cake, or should I say pie?

A buddy of mine went to the Gold Room in SF and met Janine! She sat on my lap and I she took a polaroid of us! Then she signed it! Classic!

Anyway...

Then the first Angels And Airwaves album came out and I fuckking loved it! I still love the record today! It's an amazing gem!

But then "I-Empire" came out and I lost interest. I bought the others too just hoping, but I never got into them.

Well, last week I saw this killer silver packaging in the record store. It was the new Angels And Airwaves album! Had no clue it was out.

So I bought it.

Also found the silver packaging vinyl swirl lp with a sticker and a guitar pick!

I was very excited and hoping it was going to be back to the first album!

I didn't know what to think after the first spin.

But there are so many influences!

Right away I thought of RUSH on the track "Euphoria." Very "Sawyer" synth.

Then in other songs I heard more synth! So fuckking 80's to me! "Rebel Girl" is very Rush synth heavy.

"Fire In A Nameless Town" sounds like John Carpenter meets 311!

"Automatic" sounds like Joy Division meets The Cure!

The song "Spellbound" sounds like a Katy Perry or a Taylor Swift song!

Speaking of "Spellbound" that is also the title of a Triumph song!

Well that song is on "Thunder Seven."

This cover and that Triumph cover are quite similar.

The last track is cool too. "Kiss And Tell." Excellent drumming in the fill section of the tune.

This album is AWESOME!

I am in shock.

Let the fallout begin.

Fuckk it!

Hope they tour. I'm there.

Have you ever heard Boxcar Racer? It was Tom's heavier side project about 20 years ago, which also featured Travis Barker

25!!

Where have you been? Thank you so much! You made my night!

This is one of the main reasons why I love The Rush Forum! I think I know so much about music and yet I don't know shit!

"I Feel So..." STUPID! LOL!

I have never heard of this side band.

I'm listening now to the album!

I LOVE IT!

I don't care what anyone thinks! Some people on here hate me because I love RATT! LOL! FUKK EM!

I love BLINK!

I think Travis Barker is a fuckking incredible drummer. He's the modern day Tommy Lee. I love him too!!

There is no doubt that Tom is a genius.

Barker just kicks serious ass on the kit. Guy escapes death on a plane crash and is now back flying on planes. He has more balls than anyone on this Forum.

Get yer "BALLS TO THE WALL" Man.....

ACCEPT ME FOR WHO I AM! LOL!

I hope Angels And Airwaves announce a North American Tour!

Cheers SuperSmasher!

I want to ride my skateboard and wear my sweatshirt that says THRASHER! LOL!

Meh, it's fine.

Admittedly, never got Blink's popularity. But I kinda skipped most of that Nu Metal scene when it was peaking.

Pretty sure Blink 182 was a punk band and nowhere near the metal scene at that time.

Pop punk at that.

Yeah, but Punk was already pop before that because of the Ramoans, Clash, Green Day and Offspring.

I mean, yes. But! It should be remembered that by the early 80s, standard punk (like The Ramones and The Clash) had birthed hardcore (like Minor Threat and Dead Kennedys), which became the new standard for disenfranchised young punks everywhere. So by the 90s, for a punk band to be playing hyper melodic songs with pretty decent production and rather conventional songwriting couldn't just be considered the same as what Black Flag and the like had been doing, thus the pop-punk label/sub-genre was born.

I love the Dead Kennedys! JELLO RULES!! So many killer punk bands spawned by The Clash and The Ramones! Black Flag, Fear, Circle Jerks, GBH, Bad Religion!

For my money, I've yet to find a "hardcore" band better than Minutemen.

Hahaha! OMG! I almost wrote them down!! YES!!! I love Mike Watt!!! I saw Mike Watt play bass in Porno For Pyros with Perry and Perkins. It was in a small sex club in San Francisco. "God's Urge" Tour.

It was fuckking awesome.

Perry was drinking red wine and filming the crowd on a small video recorder. Some dude jumped on stage and grabbed it from Perry and stage dove back into the crowd. Perry didn't spill one drop of wine but he was pissed off! Yelling and screaming to stop that guy and get his video camera back. It was long gone man.

Naked woman and men were in these huge cages suspended from the ceiling. They were covered in neon paint and f**k dancing. Crazy shit.

I didn't know Mike Watt got into such a crazy band after Minutemen ended, lol. What a killer bass player. Any band would kill to have him.

That would explain their absence from my music collection.
