Surprised there's not a thread yet.. Duke and the Zags have already lost. Big Ten season starts tonight.

Turgeon out as Maryland coach.

Purdue barely holds off Iowa, handing them their first loss.

Iowa State ranked at #19 but pretty low on Kenpom. Still undefeated, but another big test tonight against Creighton and then they host Iowa next week.

I'm really discouraged by the Gonzaga performance the last 3 games. They have the most Sweet 16s in a row of any school but if they continue to play like this they won't be adding to that number. Terrible defense last night, too many turnovers (sloppy assed play), can't shoot from 3 and shit free throw shooting.

Kentucky rolling along -- but for that blip against ND. We'll see what happens once SEC play starts. Oscar Tshiebwe is a man in full. It's weird, after years of watching one and done, of seeing older players I recognize from other teams -- UK as the second chance saloon! Ah, those magic words: "transfer portal."

The 8th ranked Wisconsin Badgers (15-2) have won 7 straight games and are now in 1st place in the Big Ten (6-1). :sundog:

Player of The Year candidate Johnny Davis is having a remarkable year, shooting threes, taking it to the hoop, and pretty much doing whatever he wants.

He has a solid team around him, and they're picking him up when he's not scoring at will.

Auburn beat Kentucky today so I expect they'll move to number 1 this coming week and it's deserved (though that San Francisco team Gonzaga beat by 16 is really good). No matter, the tournament is what counts anyway.

Kentucky choked on it today. And somebody on that team needs to learn how to give Wheeler a heads up when a pick is coming.

Some facts about Gonzaga University men's hoops:

Tomorrow will be their 109th straight week of being ranked in the AP top-25. The next closest team to that has like 55 weeks in a row,

They have made the Sweet 16 in each of the last 6 NCAA Tournaments that were held (minus 2 years ago when it was not held due to Covid). No one else has done that, not Duke, not Kentucky, no one.

Their record against Power 5 schools since 2017 is 39-11 for a winning % of 78. Virginia and Kansas are next at 75.7%. Gonzaga's opponents in these games posted an aggregate record in their own conferences of 537-331 (.618) in the seasons that Gonzaga played them. Unlike the other teams on the list, the Zags are playing above average teams in the best leagues in the country and winning 78% of the time. They don't have games against Power 5 schools like Northwestern, Boston College, etc.

Gonzaga has owned the last six years of the NCAA Tournament as well, winning 15 games since 2017, six more than any other team in the country besides Michigan (who has won 12). That's not even fair to the Zags, who were slated to be the second-overall seed in the 2020 tournament before it was canceled. Their dominance in tournament wins would have likely increased had the event been played.

Their home court winning streak stands at 66 and counting. The next closest school is in the mid-20s.

They have made 2 of the last 4 Final Fours played. No one else has done that.

Maybe the most amazing thing about all of this is that Mark Few has done this in Spokane, Washington, a lower mid-sized city in literally the middle of not much else......not on Tobacco Road, not in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City or any other large metropolitan area/traditional basketball power area of the country.

The national championship will be the cherry on top of the sundae and it will happen. I'm looking forward to it.

The bad news...Indiana loses to Wisconsin.

The good news....they don't ever have to play that cheap shot fuckweasel Brad Davison again.

Badgers 77

Wolverines 63

Ugly brawl during the after-game handshake! Wisconsin thumps Michigan, and Coach Juwan Howard refuses to shake Coach Gard's hand.

They get face to face, assistant coaches and players come to assist, and Coach Howard SLAPS a Badger assistant coach in the face! A brawl begins, a few Michigan players throw punches! Howard will be getting a free vacation soon.....

I saw that; what a scene. Apparently Howard was mad the Badgers called a timeout with like fifteen seconds left. Does Michigan suspend him? The Big Ten? NCAA? All of the above?

Wisconsin Coach Greg Gard put in his reserves at 0:48. They were up by 19.

With the game decided (down by 15), Michigan was full court pressing with 15 seconds left.

Gard called a TO to avoid the 10-second rule turnover. Totally valid. There was no disrespect at all.

Howard was a sore loser and lost his head.

100% agree.

Howard all apologetic now. Funny how a five game suspension and a 40 large wallet deduction does that.

He's a fierce competitor, who hates to lose. All he has to do is master his emotions, especially his anger. As he is not a long-time veteran head coach, he still has to complete his Jedi coaching training. He can't let any loss push him over the edge.

He should also improve his game management skills. He has to understand that if he has his players play until the last second, then the other coach will do the same.

Wisconsin Badgers are trying to corner the market on scrappy, tough basketball.
