Both of these albums were important to me as a kid, even though they are so different..but when I judge them against their respective discographies as well as against each other, I have to give Triumph the nod. If it was up against Face Value it might have been different, but Hello I Must Be Going isn't quite as strong. It's blander across the board, although a few of the heart string tuggers still make me feel things. But Allied Forces is Triumph's best record, with 2 or 3 great songs. As far as artist goes, it's such a tough one, because Phil has made some atrocious music, no question, but also some great pop music. Triumph is a band I liked a lot as a kid...but I now don't appreciate the same way. They always felt split down the middle to me - I liked Rik Emmett's inspirational songs, but as soon as the went straight forward rocker style (mostly, but not always, sung by Gil Moore) I found them very generic and boring. And now, a lot of those Rik Emmett songs sound kinda cliched to me - all that follow your dreams stuff seems a bit easy and almost like a parody of inspirational rock lyrics. Having said that, the one two punch of Magic Power and Fight The Good Fight cannot be denied, and I think Ordinary Man is quite interesting. And for singer....Emmett is obviously a really great singer with an insane range...but Collins gets my vote, mostly because of his Genesis work (which maybe isn't fair). 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
