Slayer still don't do much for me.

Megadeth are likely going to end up a favourite band.

Metallica are really good, but not as amazing as people make out.

Testament and Mekong Delta are phenomenal, and alongside Kreator the best in thrash. I will die on that hill.

Dream Theater and Paradise Lost in the nineties: a precious thing to behold.

Have you heard Seasons In The Abyss from Slayer? Definitely their most melodic album. They went for more than just speed and brutality on that one.

Machine Head-Supercharger (2/10)

I tried to listen to this for the first time in years with a clear head an open mind.

and i'm going to get my positives first.......yes to me there are two, lol and they are.

Only The Names (actual great song IMO)

Trephination

I like Blank Generations verses but the Chrous just deflates the song.

the rest of this record is more nu Metal bullshit mixed with some of the worst lyrics EVER.....you hear me......EVER penned.  I hear Robb liked this style.  well he needed a throat punch.

Awful record.

I have. I just don't think Slayer is for me. I'm not as huge on thrash as I feel I should be

The Burning Red and Catharsis are guilty pleasures.

Your rating for this and Burning Red are correct. Robb loved the nu metal sound but the band didn't know how to pull it off. I'm not even sure what nu metal is supposed to be. Bands such as Korn, Slipknot, System Of A Down and Disturbed were all labeled that yet they share very little in common musically. Maybe they all use the same guitar tuning or something.

I'm not huge on them either. They put on a really good live show but the couple times I have seen them, I was mainly going for who else was on the bill.

Machine Head-Through the Ashes of Empires (8/10)

So begins what i consider one of my the greatest comebacks in Metal.  They had no label.  they MURDERED their own reputation.

If this was a wrestling match (to use the analogy)  Life had hit this band with it's finisher......the ref counted 2.999999999999......and they kick out on the last second with this album.

yea some great stuff on here man.

Imperium

Bite the bullet

Left Unfinished

In the Presance of my Enemies

Days Turn Blue to Grey

Descend The Shades of Winter (what a song.......My fav!!!)

And it only went up from here.

Robb nobody can suck quite like you brother but you pulled a miracle out here, lol

Machine head-The Blackening(10/10)

this may be the perfect metal album.  it's Heavy, Driving, Brutal and very proggy actually. Most importantly for me.  It doesn't forget to be melodic.  sometimes you can lose melody just cause you want to be metal.  this doesn't and I really appreciate that.

Easily the best MH record.

Machine Head-Unto The Locusts (9/10)

It would be hard to follow up the Blackening for any band.  I think MH do very wil indeed.  this is slightly pop-ier than the Blackening with it's hooks but i don't find this album compromises anything otherwise.

I am Hell

Locust (this is a kick ass song.....i played it twice in my listen, lol)

This is The End (fun song and an example of an ear candy pop-ier hook)

Darkness Within (A music can save us song but it actually starts kinda folk-y)

Pearls Before the Swine (this song turns up the intensity)

Who We are (great tune but Did we need the out of tune kids choir?)

Actually the kinda dialed back the aggression a bit from The Blackening.  this album just doesn't go as hard to me.

BUT......i still love it.

Machine Head-Boodstones & Diamonds (9/10)

This Almost had a ten from me.  but they tripped at the finish line with a weak 1-2 punch of a closer.

but other than that I ADORE this one

Now we Die

Killers & Kings

Ghosts Will haunt my Bones

Night of Long Knives (Such a catchy song About Manson no less, lol)

Sail Into the Black (eerie.....moody)

Eyes of the Dead

In Comes The Flood.

This album gets really dark again after the slightly lighter (for them, lol) Locusts.

Uh-oh.  i sense Catharsis off shore.

When I saw them on this tour there was a kid in the crowd with a sign asking the band if he could play Aesthetics Of Hate with them. They invited him on stage and he did a really good job with it. There was a video on YouTube of it but since it was ten years ago I'm not sure if it will be easy to find or not. Some fans were thinking that it was staged. But it didn't happen at any other show and the band had no reason to pull a stunt like that, so I felt it was always legit. Like if the kid messed up, the band could have just stepped right in and saved it.

If you think their stuff kicks ass just listening to the albums, well, it's on a whole other level live. The intensity is kicked up ten times on what they play. Awesome set from that show too.
