As an aside, I have always been of the opinion that no one compares to Peart. I drill that into my kids always. In fact my youngest and I are looking for drum lessons because of Peart. Perkins is a different style. He can play punk/alt and jazzy stuff. I waould say Banyan is progressive alt jazz if you had to label it. You should have a listen to it sometime. He's easily the best out of the list you posted, but he is still overrated. My friend at school loves Portnoy, and says that he is so much better than Neil. Listen people, he is a GREAT DRUMMER, probably the BEST ROCK DRUMMER (yes I'm yelling!). Open your 'non musical' ears and listen to what he plays. And then ask yourself 'does anyone else play that way'? Or 'play that clean'? Or 'play that strongly'? hint=NO!!!!!!!!!!!! I'd hate to ruin everyones day on this forum, but he blows ALL away. Other than 'listen I'm great', what is he trying to say to me ? I learnt to play drums by playing Rush songs, picking them out n that, I loved Peart's technique. Then for a good time I thought, no man you don't groove, it's all too hard, you never leave space (blah blah). But that was just me learning what I wanted to say on the drums, I guess a bit like a teenager regecting everything to find themslves. I now back in the Peart is awesome club - yeah I don't want to play like that, but he does ,and it is stupidly awesome.
