Best wishes for a speedy recovery, Charlie! He had a recent unspecified surgical procedure and cannot tour this fall. The article says that he has never missed a show since he joined the Stones in January, 1963! :o

So is Keith able to finally perform songs from the X-Pensive Winos era of his solo career with the Stones now that Steve Jordan is playing drums temporarily?

After all, Charlie Watts is the one who recommended Keith have Steve Jordan as his drummer during the solo career years.

Not to dismiss Charlie from not being able to tour with The Stones because of medical circumstances.

This will be interesting for sure.

I hope the diehard Stones fans won't 'take it so hard' regarding the news.

If I saw The Stones playing live with bassist Darryl Jones and drummer Steve Jordan; I'd almost blink twice into believing I'm seeing the X-Pensive Winos rhythm section there onstage.

Apparently there was a documentary titled Darryl Jones: Like a Rolling Stone in the works about his career, but it appears to be shelved possibly due to not making the crowdfunding goal as noted here.

I found an excerpt clip where Jordan is discussing Jones below.

Jones had a slight edge of becoming the Rolling Stones bassist after Bill Wyman because he’d known Keith Richards through working with the guitarist’s sidemen of Jordan and Charlie Drayton, and Mick Jagger through his Sting connections.

On a side note, Steve Jordan has collaborated and produced a few of Robert Cray's albums.

Richards, Jordan, and Cray all worked together on the Chuck Berry Hail! Hail! Rock 'n' Roll (1987) documentary film, which also featured Eric Clapton.

Clapton did a recent tour with a rhythm section of Willie Weeks on bass and Steve Jordan on drums.

This was the 2006-07 tour where Clapton was playing deeper cuts from the Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs album, which featured Derek Trucks on slide guitar.

There's all the small six degrees of separation connections.

Steve Jordan did a lot of work with John Mayer back in the Continuum/John Mayer Trio era. Exceptionally good work there. John credits him with increasing his musical knowledge and song writing ability.

That's going to be really weird seeing somebody else playing drums for them.

Steve Jordan is a really good drummer though.

I'm sure he is. But that doesn't change how strange it will be to see The Stones with someone else on drums.

Really sad to hear this but not surprised. these guys have been going for close to 60 years and have lived interesting lives! I am a huge Charlie Watts fan. Steve Jordan is the natural replacement as he connects with keith and knows the songs
