Make Your Own Kind of Music

While at a car show there was a DJ with deeper cuts than just doo-wop standards. He caused me to mistake for a moment Make Your Own Kind of Music by Cass Elliot for something by Petula Clark. Like a B-side to Downtown. So, with that in mind suggest for me some good stuff like those two songs.

Thanks in advance.

The only reason I know Petula Clark is because of that episode of Seinfeld where her and the song Downtown were mentioned.

I had her 45.

It sounds like you might like Dusty Springfield, a British singer from the same era as Petula Clark. Her voice is killer but she had alcohol problems through her life so she never got quite the fame she deserved.

You have probably heard- Son Of A Preacher Man, I think that's her most famous. You Don't Have To Say You Love Me is another good one. Wishin and Hopin and Look of Love are 2 Burt Bacharach songs if you like those. I think she was the first to do I Only Wanna Be With You. Her album Dusty in Memphis is the only album I can really think of, my mom had that one. All her stuff is along the lines of what you have mentioned. I'm always glad to hear her on 60s on 6 or whatever. :)

I did cue up some Dusty Springfield earlier today. Wishin' and Hopin' was one for sure, something I know I've heard before. Son Of A Preacher Man was on the Vanishing Point soundtrack, I dig it.

Thanks for chiming in!
