One Song: Nothing from RUSH

Name one song that describes your current musical flavor. The song that depicts your favorite genre. A song not from RUSH.

Want to understand my favorite type of music for the last decade or more?

Hammer to Fall by Queen.

That’s the type of shit I’m into. Recommendations for me?

Steering away from the well-worn classics, some more modern rock in the flavor of Hammer To Fall you might find with The Killers first couple albums.

For me lately? Anesthetize from Porcupine Tree. Lots of dynamic soundscapes, ambience, heavy metal, and extra-technical drumming without too much testosterone-influenced double kicks.

Wait, are you looking for songs that we like, or songs that you probably like?

If the latter, Begin the Beguine, by Liberace.

Mainly the song of the TRF membership and serious suggestions for me based on Hammer to Fall.

One With Everything - Styx

Icarus, & Icarus II - Kansas

I feel these songs very much show off the style of rock I just love. That perfect mix of Prog rock and Hard rock can be gold, and these 3 songs are good examples of it.

Dancing With The Moonlit Knight - Genesis

Shallow - Porcupine Tree

or my alter ego says

Goldilox - King's X

or my other alter ego says

Glory and Consequence - Ben Harper

or....

Stand - REM

or

Badlands FlashBack - Bruce Cockburn

Rose Marie - It Bites

Lover, you should have come over - Jeff Buckley

the funeral portrait - Opeth

Basically - that prog, rock, folk mix with an occasionally touch of jazz. Maybe there's 1 band to cover it all but I'm not sure which. Opeth have tried to do it starting from their death metal beginnings to turn into Camel.

Oooh, I have so many subsets of my taste depending on the day you could get the following answers. I know I'm not following directions, but that clearly isn't stopping me:

Ghost of Perdition- Opeth (my progressive death metal side)

Siberian Khatru- Yes (my prog side)

Angry Chair- Alice In Chains (my grunge side)

I also have my Lilith-Fair side, but that rarely rears its ugly head on this site.

So as I understand it we're to name the song that best represents what we're into? Allow me to take the easy way out and use Bohemian Rhapsody, which efficiently represents a wide range of the stuff I like to listen to, and is also my favorite song of all time.

Unchained? That's too Dave-y for him. Maybe Right Now or Dreams would be more his speed.

It's a nice sentiment, but I'm already taken.

You should check out White Reaper, if you haven't already.

Heck yeah! This!!!

White Reaper, a band or song?

A band!

Check out their album World’s Greatest American Band from 2017. It’s a blast!
