Jethro Tull are three-quarters of the way through recording their first official album since 2003, called THE ZEALOT GENE!

I need to do a serious deep dive into the Tull catalog. I know Aqualung pretty well and I have heard Thick As A Brick and a few others. I have always liked what I heard but never went all in on them.

You can't go wrong with Tull.

I have always had a soft spot for the so called 'folk trilogy' -

I think this was Tull at their zenith. In my view the decline set in after Stormwatch.

Sure, there were still some good things, but the great days were behind them.

My favorite period as well, although 1970-71 runs a close 2nd

I view his/their oeuvre albums a bit like Rush, kind of grouped together or sister albums

This Was - stands alone

Stand Up/Benefit - hippy Ian

Aqualung/TAAB - vagrant Ian

A Passion Play/War Child/Minstrel in the Gallery - Baroque Ian

TOTRAR:TYTD - stands alone

Songs from the Wood/Heavy Horses/Stormwatch - folksy rustic Ian

A/Broadsword/Under Wraps - electronic Ian

after that my familiarity with the albums drops

I listened to Under Wraps again today, and this will probably be the last time I'll ever listen to it. It's not bad, just not a Jethro Tull album. If this album had "Talking Heads" written on the cover, and not Jethro Tull, people would be calling it a brilliant piece of work.

Definitely in the lower third of JT albums. I rarely feel compelled to revisit Under Wraps. Suffers from Eighty-itis, drum and keyboard sounds are blech. But the UW tour is pretty darn good and I regularly listen to the September 9th Hammersmith BBC broadcast. That's one of the great things about Ian/Tull, not every album is 5 star but the tours are damn good. Those "A" concerts are great too

This arrogant asshole fishery man needs to hang it up.

The guy stole the Grammy from Metallica.

An Overrated Legend in my "Thick As A Book."

Hook, line and sinker...

Progressive Rock....

A Stinker?

An intellectual thinker?

Doesn't matter about I.Q. but I would rather listen to that band instead! LOL!

Turn on your "FREQUENCY."

Do some of you cats get my riddle?

Or do you just mental masturbate to a man who plays on a steel fiddle.

I would rather watch "American Pie."

"This one time at band camp...."

Yeah, I stuck a flute up my pussy.

It felt so good that it turned me into a Man.

Some things written are too "hard" to understand......

Jethro Dull will always be at the bottom of my 69 band list.

Prostate Cancer is a very serious thing.

Time for me to take a piss....

BOO

HISS

Listening to Simon Phillips PROTOCOL albums tonight.

Yep! Intellectual Music Rules.

I will miss Neil Peart Forever.

Two Years Gone Plus.....

I will always carry his Spirit.

Whether it is in Me, a We or an US.

I can't wait for Rod's interview of this silly jester snob.

I would rather stay at home watching a Ginger Lynn Porno while polishing off my knob.

It's ok though.

Some prefer to eat corn on the cob.

I will just sit here thinking about the loss of Neil and sob.

The last great Tull album is A.

Well, an A-

lol

First question for Ian: "did it bother you that Iron Maiden did a way better version of Coss-Eyed Mary than the original?"

I was watching a few of his interviews this morning...in one of the recent ones, the interviewer starts with "Mr. Anderson" - like The Matrix. Ian's look of contempt and despise is PRICELESS. That joke fell incredibly flat! I'm preparing for his grumpiness.

Ian was actually really cool, and ellaborated a lot in his replies. I had about 20 questions for him, but managed to ask only 8 or so. He's a very eloquent person, especially when he's in a good mood. I can't wait for you to listen to this one!

Top-notch interview Rod, great work.

In particular, I loved your question relating to the term "album" and how that has much less meaning now than it used to in terms of the listening experience.

Thank you!

I had 5 or 6 more questions, but he elaborated A LOT in his replies. One of the things I didn't ask is what was his recollection of the late 70's when apparently the rise of punk meant the death of prog. I was only 4 at the time, but recently I've been reading that prog was a victim of its own excesses. I wanted to hear his thoughts on that, but it would have been another 15-minute reply! :D

Yes...he seems very cerebral when he answers questions, bordering on philosophical.
