A Farewell To Kings

Hemispheres

Signals - I could live without the songs on PW and MP, but The Weapon was one of the best things Rush ever did.

Why you little picnic hat!

I almost dread the answer and I dare not google it, so tell me - what is a picnic hat?

It's a chocolate bar with wafer and nuts made into hat. The problem is it melts in the sun. :sundog:

I want to include 2112, but I'd be leaving out one of my top 3 albums to do it, plus Signals which I always overlook until I listen to it and remember why its my #4. How about I go with the deluxe anniversary boxset editions of AFTK and PeW, plus the regular old version of MP for the time being, thus getting a lot of extra goodies in the form of live tracks on the deluxe versions??

This is a really impossible task you know.

Hold Your Fire

Vapor Trails

Feedback

This is a joke, right?

Oh man, I considered HYF, yes I did.

Ged's voice was in top form, and probably with his best melodies, ever, bar none.

But I can't quite get onboard with some of the synths.

It makes my top 5, for sure.

My choices are...

All the World's a Stage / A Farewell to Kings / Hemispheres

220px-Rush_ATWAS.jpg

I discovered Rush in 1977 when I purchased "A Farewell to Kings" when it was first released at a record store at the Shoppingtown Mall in Dewitt, New York.

I all happened quite by accident actually.

.For some reason we didn't have school that day and my friend John N. and I hitch-hiked to the mall.

We saw these two girls in the record store and I started talking to one who was holding "A Farewell to Kings", which had just been released.

My friend, John, walks up and says, "Aw, man, Rush sucks...Geddy Lee sings like a girl".

I grab a copy from the bin and say, "No, they're great dude, I'm getting this".

Mind you, I've never heard one note of their music that I can recall before that.

So, I buy the record, just to impress my new friend.

After spending the day with our new girlfriends, John and I hitch-hike back home.

We smoked a joint and headed to John's where we spun the new Rush album.

Our little 14 year minds were simply blown by what we heard that day.

(I would like to state for the record that John became the biggest Rush fan that day).

I picked up "All the World's a Stage" the very next day with money I managed to scrape together, borrowing the rest from my sister.

I played those records over and over and over and over again.

Then it happened, 18 November 1977...

...Rush came to the War Memorial in Syracuse, New York, where I lived..

3 friends, Mike L., Jeff P. and Jamie M. and I got tickets (each of us telling our parents that we were sleeping at one another's houses) and off we went to the big rock show.

This was only my second concert, the first being KISS a few months earlier.

That was it, I was a full-fledged Rush fanatic and there was no turning back.

I completed my collection quickly by adding "2112" a week later with my paper route money, adding the first three as soon I could thereafter.

Less than a year later, "Hemispheres" was released and I got to see them on that tour as well.

Ah, life of the rock and roll kid.

Looking back, I can see what that was not only was it a pivotal time for them, it was for me as well.

The perfect band at the perfect time...more than nostalgia, but rather a most magical part of my life's soundtrack.

After a minor chocolate based distraction ... back on topic ....

Tricky to reduce it to three as it means I will have to leave Permanent Waves behind.

So my three are -

220px-Rush_A_Farewell_to_Kings.jpg

Simply because it is my favourite Rush album

220px-Rush_Hemispheres.jpg

Combining great complexity with cracking good songs

220px-Moving_Pictures.jpg

A very consistent album all round

We have Cadbury bars here, but I've never seen this one.

Do they sell them in the USA?

If not, why not???

Hmmm?????

The Cadbury you typically see in the United States is manufactured by Hershey.

I've found "real" Cadbury in the city at a place called Tea and Sympathy.

They do carry some "real" Cadbury at World Market stores here.

The difference in taste is night and day, with the the "true" Cadbury being heads and shoulders above the United States version.

I don't know about that place. What's an afternoon Banger?

Our menu includes classic British favourites including Afternoon Tea, Bangers ...

There's another one that's very similar to Picnic, although I don't think it's quite as good.

When we visit my cousins in Missouri we always have to bring a box load of Cadburys Flake bars. They love them!

You are right - the Lion Bar is nowhere near as nice as the mighty Picnic!
