Johnny Rivers recorded a few cover songs in the 60's and 70's that were top 10 hits.

Some examples below.

Memphis (Chuck Berry cover)

Baby I Need Your Loving (Four Tops cover written by Holland–Dozier–Holland)

Mountain of Love (first written and recorded by Harold Dorman and then covered by Kenny Lynch)

Rockin' Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu (Huey 'Piano' Smith cover)

The Seventh Son (first recorded by Willie Mabon and written by Willie Dixon)

Swayin' to the Music (Slow Dancing) (first recorded by Funky Kings and written by Jack Tempchin)

Eric Clapton - I Shot The Sheriff (Bob Marley and the Wailers cover)

That's certainly a well-known song of his, but I wouldn't say that's his most famous solo song, and certainly not the song with which he's most commonly associated.

Just curious, which song would you say he is most well known for?

Solo, probably After Midnight. Overall? Probably Layla or Sunshine of Your Love.
