I got the white vinyl and it's in VA right now but I'm figuring it's going to take at least a week.

There must be some warehouse there because my cd set originated in Virginia and went through Richmond.

Yep......in Crozet, VA. Only two hours away, which might explain why my box arrived so early. The same warehouse/company handles all of the Grateful Dead's archival releases, and probably other bands as well. Not sure if it's a manufacturing plant, or an outlet for Rhino Records, or what. But anyway, that's where all these box sets are coming from. Funny, because there's practically nothing else down there.

Got my shipping notification last night. This is for the 3CD set and a couple of t-shirts.

Should be here by Thursday.

While you're waiting you can listen to this:

Thanks. Very tasty. I may just have to put this on repeat for a while. :)

Try this one as well from the same gig:

Just as tasty - great second serving of Dokken. I've forgotten how much I liked them. Mr Lynch is on point here.

Thanks again.

Speaking of that, what's this talk about ESL being recorded in Toronto? I know the ESL footage was from Montreal March 27, but the LP is stated to be from Montreal March 27 as well (not counting Side 2), albeit a completely different mastering and much studio tampering. Were they already labeling dates incorrectly this far back? I'll have to look into this some more. If true, that old saying goes, you learn something new every day.

Apologies, late reply, I had leapt to a conclusion; the ESL liner notes do not mention Toronto. I am now quite embarrassed of trying to compare the boots from Toronto 3/23/81 - 3/25/81 to ESL.

I saw them 2x in those years. Opening for Twisted. I was close to the stage and was very impressed with the sound and playing. Then at a festival..might have been Monsters Of Rock...and realized how good they sounded in a stadium on a sunny afternoon great band.

I saw them just once in 1986 supporting Accept, they sounded great!

Listening to YYZ from Live in YYZ, and let me tell you, Geddy is killing it. The bass guitar sounds so good. And in the middle is Neil's solo which is just insane -- he is on-fire. You have to listen to this with nice headphones, incredible! Edited by currygoat11

Live show is very tasty.  Not quite sure at this point, but I kind of get the feeling it might be a Frankenstein job between the Toronto stand.  More investigation needed. Suppose that makes sense depending on the condition of the tapes.  The live recording is very sweet.

Been listening to the live show, is it me or does that snare drum sound artificial at times?? Similar to Alex's mix of the Exit... Stage Left re-release (Rush Replay x 3) ? Or is it just a matter of the sound being cleaned up or polished? Maybe the difference between The 24th and 25th shows?

Still wish I understood that reference.

Don’t own the physical box set but I’ve really been enjoying the streaming version. It’s awesome that after 41 years we finally have a full set list instead of the collection of songs from Exit Stage Left. I love that album and always will, but I never liked how short it was.

The snare sounded different to me too, at times. I like it. Sounds punchy with a bit more "attack"?

Also some other sounds were appreciated - as I would expect them to be cleaned off, such as the odd strum of strings or warm up notes.

I love the recording!

Notes on the liner notes say :

Live in YYZ 1981

Recorded live at Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto, ON by Guy Charbonneau using Le Mobile Remote Recording - March 24 & 25, 1981

So we have a mish-mash of both nights then?

From what I can tell, it sounds like the only songs from Mar 25 are 2112, Freewill, Broon's Bane & La Villa Strangiato. All the others all seem to be from the 24th.

Whatever other copy-pasting/mistake corrections they did, I think they did a great job with it.
It's amazing, everyone sounds great and the performance is just excellent =)

I'm fine with any sort of compilation of the 3 nights to produce the best results. Of course my real preference would be a 6 cd set of the complete 3 night run.  And then do the editing for the vinyl version where that is a compilation of the best performances cobbled together to make a complete set list
