"Moving Pictures 40th Anniversary"

The joke will be well, it's 41. Just like R40 which was 1 year late.

Frankly I'm disappointed. Having a hard time believing that this anniversary will pass, with no good reason for the thing to not be released.

It's not a priority for the record label. Also there's a huge backlog for pressing vinyl which I'm sure is a major factor too.

Fair point. Extending tht situation, then I guess it doesn't make sense for them to do CD/HD, and digital first, then vinyl packages later. Probably screws up the marketing and the impact of the releases to split them.

And yet, there's this abomination - brand f***ing new:

6XLPRU072.jpg

Yeah that seems like it was a label decision and the band themselves had little to do with it.

Also, they almost, ALMOST had one song from every album, but somehow the myth that CoS is as unsuccessful as its tour still persists so they don't include, I dunno, Bastille Day?! Or even Lakeside Park? Shame. They can't even get their cash grab gimmick compilation right.

"How do we decide what goes on the compilation, boys?"

"I don't know, sir...let's get the dart board out..."

It's the most recent single disc compilation that was released. They probably new where the tapes were.

The tapes are in a warehouse in central NJ. Along with a bunch of other artist's.*** At least they were up until 5 years ago. Just sayin'. I used to drive past the business complex on my commute every day.

***I don't remember now how I came to know this.

Still haven't heard anything about this re release.

Not to be overly dramatic about this....but I am honestly astounded that they have messed this release date up like this. It's baffling.

Not baffling at all. Alex clearly said that everything has slipped due to the pandemic.

When and where? I haven't heard of Alex speaking on the subject before.

What town was that? Might have gone by there and not even have known it. Then again, I may have also driven past Jimmy Hoffa too.

As far as Hoffa goes, that was a great NJ urban legend while it lasted. LOL. I even believed it.

So, why is it that bands and artists don't get to keep their own tapes, and instead they have to be sent to a facility with a bunch of other artists' tapes? The kind which could easily go up in flames and destroy hundreds (perhaps thousands) of essential master tapes in one go.

FWIW: Slash said this week that a "Use Your Illusion" 30th anniversary box set that GNR had planned for this fall (the actual 30th anniversary) got pushed back because of COVID. Would imagine something similar is going on here.

https://ultimateclas...lusion-box-set/

I have to admit when it comes to covid vs 30th Anniversary of Use Your Illusion, I'm pulling for covid.

Probably in the initial contracts the bands sign. It's the only thing I can think of.

But yeah sure, it's not like a fire can ever, ever wipe out a few generations of irreplaceable music. That's /never/ happened.......

These days, does a record deal even mean anything?

I dunno. Self publishing is a thing now, and either you make it on the internet/social media or you don't.

And as far as protecting your masters? Find some good backup software and make 3 copies.

Seriously.

Ain’t that the truth. talk about a band.....who has lived off one great album their entire career....I find it astounding to be frank. The same can be said of a few bands (Nirvana immediately comes to mind who had IMO a vastly overrated debut and subpar follow up and they have been legendary ever since).

There are some good songs on Use Your Illusion I and II. I can count them on my 5 fingers....a bloated double album full of filler.

I bought both discs at the time of their release and never once could listen to either all the way through in one listen. There are some decent tracks but nothing so great that I couldn't even bother making a 1 disc compilation of the best tracks. I liked Civil War

Not far at all. Heading northeast it's maybe 3 or 4 miles, past the 287 underpass - the gas station... then a left somewhere...cross over the GSP..... few more blocks and into the strip mall where it used to be. Right on route 1 if I remember correctly.
