What happened to De Niro?

He got to the point where he had nothing to prove anymore and just stopped caring. But still does it because they pay him a ton to play the goofy old man.

Joe Pesci was the smart one. He retired from full time acting years ago. He did what he wanted to do, got his money and got out.

Someone’s not a fan of his jump to conclusions mat!

I don't remember Jack Nicholson's career hitting the skids like De Niro and he's worth around the same amount and he did the smart thing and retired in 2013. Nowadays his career is looking a lot more impressive than De Niro's.

I give Bobby a 22-2 movie record...though I skipped all of those 21st century terrible looking flicks. It started to go to shit around Analyze This or that Meet the Parents/Fockers fluff with Stiller around 20 years ago. I think Ronin in the late 90s was the last of his string of good/decent movies he had.

Jack I have at a 13-2 record but there was nothing I intentionally skipped.

Yeah it was when he did those shitty comedies the Fokkers and Analyze This etc. After that he went straight downhill.

The originals weren’t too bad. The sequels sucked, though.

It's been a while since I've seen that movie. I will have to revisit it soon.

It’s on Showtime streaming this month. I’ve got it in my iTunes and Movies Anywhere cloud.

I'm pretty sure I saw it a while back when I was scrolling through Netflix or Hulu.

Just because you`ve got great credibility, it doesn`t turn sh*t into gold. Nobody forgave Eddie Van Halen, Van Halen III. (Although I don`t personally hate it). De Niro appearing in car adverts, Harvey Keitel and car insurance... I can`t help but shake my head. I guess the number of years of earning are looking a bit limited and you`ve got more and more family than you had when you could pick film roles, so you figure just stuff your pockets before you`re dribbling on your shirt and thinking it`s 1973.

Getting a commercial ad job for a major company is one of the best moves an actor can make from a financial standpoint. They get paid every time those commercials air. They make some serious bank off that. Why do we never see the lady who plays Flo in the Progressive insurance ads in anything else? Because she doesn't need to do anything else.

That was kind of my point; it`s a great earner. When you get to near-Octogenarian status, it`s either a) easy month from commericals, or b) run for president.

I just feel that with $500 million in the bank De Niro doesn't need to be doing shit like this. Joe Pesci retired 20 years ago and only has $50 million. Is Pesci doing stupid commercials?

It was on Starz a month ago since I’ve got a yearly subscription that ends in late September.

That little girl is Jesse Eisenberg’s sister.

So now you're trying to say Pesci has sold out and gone downhill just as badly as De Niro? Posting this isn't going to make De Niro look good and all is forgiven.

That's an older commercial too. Pesci may have still been acting when that was airing.

Here's one he did more recently.

De Niro almost seems like he's been on a mission to ruin his own career. I remember back in the 80's when De Niro still had an aura of class about him, similar to Daniel Day Lewis. It started to erode in the 90's and now is completely gone. It's almost like the De Niro of the 70's, 80's and most of the 90's was a different guy, like he was replaced by an imposter in 1998.

Why would modern, crappy-decision-making DeNiro, paycheck-cashing DeNiro, disrupt what you think about past DeNiro? Can't he have been great once, a titan of his field, and now he's a phoning-it-in corporate shill? The second thing doesn't undo the first thing. His work in the '70s and '80s was legit great and that's in the past, so it doesn't change. It's not like you can ask yourself, "was he really all that good, if he's the same guy who was in Dirty Grandpa?" Yes, he really was that good, and now he uses his skills for evil. Nothing gold can stay. Lament the drop-off, but don't let it retroactively tarnish the great stuff.

I saw him in a movie last night from 2015 called The Intern, with Anne Hathaway.

Loved it.

I just read a story about him the other day. He's apparently in a court battle with his ex wife over her credit card limits. Apparently he just lives way beyond his means and actually is really hard up for money. Has serious debt, etc, etc.

How can you be worth $500 Million and live beyond your means? What's he buying islands made of gold?

Most wealthy people don't keep their money in cash. He owns restaurants and hotels and I guess things aren't\haven't been doing all that well.

I wonder why they always feel they have to "invest" their money? These businesses fail more often than not.

If you don't invest and live like a movie star does, then you go broke eventually. But I guess he just made poor investments.

kinda like why the mob would “invest” in a failing business operation.

Maybe the Mob could buy a casino in Vegas and set up De Niro is some title-only job and . . . oh, wait. nvm

LMAO.

You know I worked on a poker show ages ago and It took place at the plaza casino in Las Vegas which is featured quite a bit in Casino. Larry Minetti was the casino host. He’s famous for being Magnum PI’s third hand man. He had the fly collar and everything— right out of the 70s LOL. He was also super f***ing cool.

He picked a bad movie to retire on. How Do You Know was awful. Can’t believe this is from the writer director behind classics like Broadcast News and As Good As It Gets. No different from Gene Hackman retiring with Welcome To Mooseport.

At least they retired when they did a bad movie instead of doing 50 more like De Niro.
