SOCN

For the life of me, I'll never understand how people can say something along the lines of, "I've never posted in SOCN, but all the people who post in there are . . . " It's a politics sub-forum. If you're not into politics, there's no reason for you to post in there. I have no interest in Porcupine Tree or Government Mule. You won't find me posting in threads dedicated to them. It's pretty simple. But if you've never been in there, how do you know it's all a bunch of . . . ?

I just knew there was something fundamentally wrong with you but I couldn't put my finger on it until now. :P

Its worse than you thought. Gabriel-era Genesis? Unlistenable.

HAHAHAHA!!!

RICK! I love you too man! I love Genesis until Hackett left.

This could be THREAD OF THE YEAR!!!

Sorry JARG!!!

EPIC!

What does thinking Trump is a bozo have to do with politics anyway?

wait - are we not all on the same page?

:poke:

Suffice to say out here, you won't find too many people in SOCN that are reflexive supporters of any politician. The OP was actually a notable exception to that.

EDIT: Now, let's get back to talking about how LABT worships those teeny boppers Amon Duul II.

Hahahaha!

I feel "grandfathered in" to this forum, but I take nothing for granted.

I love the wit of so many on here.

Keeps me coming "BACK FOR MORE!" Oh yeah! Here it comes...... you know me....

Love,

RATT

1-0-0 just publicly attacked me for making a legitimate post and I want to defend myself,

Yes, I was banned from SOCN a couple years ago. After many years hanging out there and untold thousands of post I was suspended 2 or 3 times.. Once for calling out bigotry against an attack against an atheist. And the other was for defending an attack against Neil in GenPop by a LABT who hates him because of his political beliefs and I called it out. I gladly took that one.

But everyone who ever posted in SOCN knows there was always a double standard against liberals by 1-0-0 and the mods. Every liberal that posted there was constantly personally assaulted and the mods turned a blind eye because obviously they felt they deserved it. Hell, I was even Doxxed and the mods did nothing.

The mods let the conservatives get away with 8 years of spewing never ending racism against Obama. There was endless birther conspiracies and attacks for being Muslim and so on. There was always some racist posts from the attacks on Muslims (NY mosque) to present day Trump racist propaganda. No one was ever called out once for posting and promoting that racist garbage. Ever.

I was banned for suggesting that some posters motives might be racism. Imagine that! I mean, it was obviously true, but still!

And also, since Trump we have a wealth of social science that actually proves I was right. What I said was a fact. I can post endless material supporting that conclusion as we look at people’s identities. (See:Lilliana Mason)

Other than to see old friends when Neil passed away I could care less about this place. Like the other liberals I moved on long before the ban and rarely posted as it was. This was a legitimate reference To Rush that could be posted on any other a rush forum, but once again, if it hints at anything negative to conservatives it is taboo.

What a joke. Some things never change. The first rule of Rush Club is don’t talk about a Rush, especially if people might find out they were atheists and progressives and abhorred bigots. They get banned.

1-0-0 will delete this I am sure. But it is a fact. We both know it. Everyone I talked to when I came back in PM’s agreed. You can claim to be fair but you allowed endlessly bigotry and attacked those who confronted it. You can live with that, my conscious is clear,

Never heard of SOCN, if you're a Liberal then there are plenty of places on the Internet you might Like, They even Censor those Evil Conservatives, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Google Etc Etc Etc.

The Sense O'Clock News is the Politics section here on the forum

That's what it means??? After 14 years of being here?

No wonder so many want to ban me. LOL!

The "No Sense O'Cock Blues?"

I can see why I would always have blue balls if I joined such a sub-forum.

Give me Sub Pop instead.

Signed,

TRF Rules: No politics outside SOCN*. You've all been reported.

*And that one Random Samples thread.

The only reason for that rule is the extremism and insults against democrats are not viewable to the public.

There is zero reason the public should not see what is posted under the great RUSH name.

Grow up already and stop using "rules " for your personal benefit.

I get a chuckle from the "I hate SOCN. I've never been there, but I still hate it" type of comments.

To me, the phrase "the sense o'clock news" should only get mentioned is if it's being quoted from 'Test For Echo'.

Considering the recent things I've read on here about The Sense O'Clock News, I wish Neil had never written that phrase to be problematic down the line.

The Sense O'Clock News should remain under 'lock and key'.

No one should look at it, virtually point at it, or even think about it.

It should probably just virtually burn in hell.

On a side note, I'm seeing more threads being locked. Hopefully this one gets locked as well.

Extremism, in the assault on idiocy, is no vice.

Yes, all true. In fact, just this morning, one of our more mild-mannered SOCN patrons killed another with a trident. I forget what set it off, something about Republicans inventing global warming to defeat abortion, I think. Pretty standard fare in there. Anyway, usually someone will choose a hand grenade or a mace-and-chain for that sort of work, but this guy somehow scored himself a trident. Might have to amend the rules a bit.

Just to chime in, I've been personally insulted several times in SOCN, and about, gosh I don't know... 7 years ago?... someone on SOCN, I don't remember who, went to the trouble of finding my Facebook profile and quoting it on SOCN.

I hadn't been there for a couple years, but came back to SOCN after Neil's passing and started perusing.

I think I generally feel more pity when reading SOCN. It used to be white hot anger, and Reb never emotionally moved on from that reaction, but now, I honestly pity most of the regulars in SOCN.

The human mind is a computer. The squishy bits, with neurons and synapses, with chemicals interacting with electricity... that's your hardware. And the pathways that are formed within the brain, the ones that control reasoning, logic, understanding, perception... that's your software. And its malleable, that's how the software rewrites itself over time. New pathways are formed through information. If you give someone information for long enough, a new pathway will be formed. Even if its bad information. Consider that being hacked.

Which is why I have more pity than anger towards SOCN regulars now. Because Right Wing media saturation in this country has been omnipresent and relentless in the US for decades now. Fox News rewrote the book on the role of "news" media, other Right Wing sources joined the bandwagon, and it has been a long game over the course of 25 years to hack the software of otherwise intelligent people.

Because, truly, to the average SOCN goer: you're an intelligent person. I truly believe that. I wouldn't enter the fray without that belief.

But now in SOCN, the scruples of LGBT equal rights in a Supreme Court ruling are put through much more scrutiny than Donald Trump's Administration gassing peaceful protestors in order to clear a path to a church where the church staff were then forced out to make way for a photo op for the President.

And you just have to ask... why? Why do we need to spend dozens of posts arguing circles around what is objectively a good thing: the Supreme Court ruling in favor of equal rights for LGBT's.... but we'll only take a cursory look at an attack on American people and property for a photo opportunity?

It's not because the folks of SOCN are evil, or unintelligent.

I have to conclude its this hacking phenomena I've been talking about.

And to any SOCN regulars, this line of discussion won't be unfamiliar. In every conversation I have there, EVERY conversation, I will inevitably bring this topic forward in some form or another. The "brain hacking" theory I've put here is a new way of wording it, but that's because I think its going to come off as offensive and juvenile when I don't mean that. I don't mean it as an insult when I say I pity SOCN regulars, or "Conservatives" in general, and I will grant you that its an over simplification. But even if it is a problematic metaphor, its the best I have.

I think its terribly sad, the condition our national discourse is in. And our nation itself.

SOCN is not a productive place to get your information. SOCN is not a productive place to analyze information.

SOCN is best viewed through the lens of a long term, on going socio/psychological experiment on the interaction of information dissemination and political ideology in an isolated community.

What is this SOCN thing?? Am I missing something??

SOCN is an abbreviation for "The Sense O'Clock News", a sub-forum listed on the home page between "Food And Wine Aplenty" and "Reverse Polarity". SOCN is used for political discussion, usually but not exclusively pertaining to US politics.

You can only gain access to it by Private Messaging one of the Moderators. I think the standing rule when I joined was 100 posts and over the age of 18?
