This one was really close between Sad Wings of Destiny, Rainbow Rising, Leftoverture and Jailbreak.

Aerosmith, Boston, Queen, Led Zep, Kiss, Johnny the Fox, Return to Forever and Al Di Meola were close too.

The final winner is Sad Wings of Destiny.

I was born on the release date of Hotel California.

Steely Dan - The Royal Scam was voted 'best guitar album' of 1976 by Guitar Player Magazine.

Here's a 1976 Canadian classic I'm sharing below.

Joni Mitchell - Hejira

Hejira is definitely one of my favorites from 1976. And possibly my favorite Joni album, period.

Definitely my favorite Joni album. Jaco Pastorius is the man!

At the TRF committee meeting I mentioned putting it in the 1976 poll, but when we put it to a vote it lost out 26-4 with 8 abstentions and 2 spoiled ballot papers. Maybe next time eh?

Pat! You are killing me! "Destroyer" was my first album ever. I told you. Santa gave it to me. It was unwrapped on my side of the tree. It was the first thing my young eyes saw and I ran to it! I was 8 years old!

So many incredible albums. I've always thought that 1976 was the zenith of that decade for music. But it's so hard! I need to pour a cocktail an think about it.

Aye it was a BIG year.

Someone was bitching about Frampton not being in but this was a studio album poll series, no live albums.

Trick and Wind came out in the same year? Geezus.

Yeah Genesis went into overdrive. I think they recorded Trick in '75 and didn't get it out until 1976 but anyway they did Wind as well.

That's incredible.

I'm Gabriel Era Genesis guy first, but those two albums before Hackett left are bloody brilliant!

The Scorpions were on overdrive too. Crazy.

That being said, I can't make up my mind so Pat, I have to pick an album that is not on that EPIC LIST.

Surprised you didn't put it on the list for me! Oh and Turbine Freight too.

YESTERDAY & TODAY 1976 DEBUT MASTERPIECE!

Meniketti will be very sore at you when I tell him about this. LOL! He's bitter anyway and hates the first two records.

You can only have 40 options Earl so I had to make tough choices.

Hahahaha! You are a funny fella.

The only time I ever saw Genesis was the "Invisible Touch" Tour. Oakland Arena.

Ugh.

What? Only 40? That's LAME!

I like Moonmadness.

But I'm sticking with Meniketti! Actually it was Leonard Haze's band! Dave stole it.

Yeah but Dave could have started his own band and called it THE TURDS and that would be THE band, with the great vocals and amazing guitar shit. Meanwhile Haze's Y&T would be in the middle of nowheresville permanently.
