Again, another year where artists were so prolific that it was tough keeping up with all the music being released.

I wanted Bill Ward's star shirt so badly.

YES was a close second.

Damn. Black Sabbath. Deep Purple. Tull picking up steam. Genesis, Santana, Derek and the Dominoes, Yes, Pink Floyd, ELP, Gentle Giant. King Crimson attempting to reinvent itself.

I went with Zep III.

A jazz fan that I met in the late 90's, encouraged me to give Bitches Brew by Miles Davis a listen.

It took 10 listens for me to understand what was going on musically and it was a frustrating journey.

Sting cited the album as a major influence on his musical career.

Miles Davis - Bitches Brew was voted 'best guitar album' of 1970 by Guitar Player Magazine.

When I see the album cover art for Bitches Brew, for some reason Abraxas by Santana comes to mind.

The early 70s are where it really gets impossible. Very hard to vote against Paranoid, Tumbleweed, Lizard, JC Superstar, ELP, Tresspass, and many more... but I think Chicago II really is my favorite of the year. It doesn't hurt that I saw they play nearly the whole of the album a couple summers ago and it was one of the best sounding concerts of my life.

There's not an album on the list that has a more of a profound impact on music better than Black Sabbath's debut.

It should, Abdul Mati Klarwein did both.

Abraxas ftw.

I come from the land of ice and snow . . . . and it stays great from there.

LZ III juuuuuust over In Rock, Black Sabbath, or Benefit. PF and CCR in the second tier. Damn these choices, man!
