  1. 1. Which album from 1983 by the former Sabbath vocalists is better?

    • Dio - Holy Diver
    • Ozzy Osbourne - Bark at the Moon

You kill my soul.

I LOVE JAKE N OZZY!!

However, as a crazy guy who lives for hard rock and metal...

I have to go with "Holy Diver." Vivian kills me in Def Leppard. Paycheck Boy. Weak.

DIO!

Because....

Rainbow "Rising"

Black Sabbath "Heaven And Hell"

DIO "Holy Diver"

The Unholy Trinity.

Come on people.

Bark At The Moon is decent but Holy Diver is a masterpiece. You could tell that Ozzy was feeling the hurt of Randy's death big time on that album. Most of it is good but it's missing the spark that the two previous albums have.

Dio on the other hand went all out to finally prove himself on his own and made an all time classic that Ozzy just couldn't compete with that year.

If it was "Blizzard" or "Diary?" Things might have been different.

Those two albums are better than Holy Diver. Nothing else Ozzy ever did is. In fairness though, Ronnie never topped it in his career either, even with Dehumanizer or The Devil You Know.

I wonder how long Ronnie had some of those songs sitting around just waiting to be recorded? He could have been writing and perfecting some of those tunes going back many years before he finally got the chance to do the album.

Some great posts here, thanks everyone.

Album Holy Diver. Bark is very very good, but just falls a bit short.

Guitarist I'd go for Jakey any day, and to be honest, although Viv is good, never thought he was great.

Would have loved it for Ozzy and Sharron to offer an olive branch to Jake, and do one more tour, but 100% never going to happen.

Both albums have aged ok, and even the Rainbow in the Dark synth still sounds good.

Interestingly Jake E Lee was the original choice as guitarist for DIO and he jammed and rehearsed with the band before being replaced by Campbell because Ronnie wanted someone playing more block chords to not interfere with his vocal space. Jake claims that he came up with the music for Don't Talk to Strangers. The intro is a bit like Killer of Giants to be fair.

Hahahaha! Tang! You kill me!

I know that "Woof" relates to "Bark."

But I dated a hot 36 year young polish blonde girl. We are still great friends. Amazing woman, but whenever she would say "woof" to me it meant "no bueno." "Classic Girl."

Love,

Jake probably did write the guitar parts to Don't Talk to Strangers because that one is credited entirely to Ronnie which means Campbell wasn't involved in the writing.

Is her second name Simon? Did she write the theme to The Spy Who Loved Me, Nobody Does it Better?
