It has come to this. Healthcare workers having to block the street from protesters and getting called a communist.

Out of curiosity, why is a health care worker doing this? I would assume he has patients to attend to. Unless the protestors are coming in to the facility, something I doubt is happening (my aunt was in the hospital in March and they weren't letting ANYONE in), why is this gentleman doing something other than addressing patients' needs?

I don't know how serious you are, so I'm sorry if I failed the internet test of taking things too literally, but isn't that question rather reductive? It's not like there are only two possible modes for all health care workers: at work or asleep. Maybe he's on a break? Maybe he considers helping to slow the spread of unnecessary social contact a kind of health care service he's providing?

Is crowd control his job though? If people are creating problems at the facility, I would think that's a matter for the facility's security, or the police. How is this woman engaging in unnecessary social contact? She's in a car. Nothing creates worse conditions in public then when people take it upon themselves to "police" other people. If he thinks what she's doing is "wrong," on a public way, call the police and let them handle it. If she's doing it on hospital grounds, call security and let them handle it.

I would bet money that it was staged.

He's not policing or engaging in crowd-control, I don't think; he's counter-protesting by disrupting the protester's parade. She's in her car now, but isn't she on her way to a rally? (I don't know; maybe it was just a drive-by protest).

I have to admit I don't know anything about where she's coming from or going to. But there's no question he's standing on a roadway blocking her car. He's welcome to counter-protest (although I'd ask if he's on the clock since he's in scrubs) but if she's on a public road, he's actually protesting in a fashion that would (should IMO) get him arrested. A few years ago near me some protesters got out of trucks on the highway and, chained to cement filled barrels, blocked traffic during rush hour. I'm all for protests, but not for doing so in a way that inhibits others from doing the same, or from going about their own business. If she's on hospital grounds, then I'd say again call hospital security.

she is engaging in behavior that can endanger any medical professional in the area. the symbolism is powerful, and spot on. at first glance she does not seemed to be particularly interested in her own health.

we got caught with our pants down and have been trying to catch up since. we can beat this shit but the the pros need supplies and protection.

i hate the medical industry as much as anyone but for anyone not to heed their advice in times like this is pretty much batshit crazy imo.

In Lansing protests, the cars were blocking hospital entrances.

So when does your right to protest more important than ambulances getting into the hospital?

Why were they doing this? Perhaps because they were fed up with the idiocy?

imo its crazy to refer to the US of A as the land of the free. considering that the US o A leads the world in terms of percentage of its population being incarcerated.

Just means we have better people to CATCH the incarcerated idiots.

If they’re incarcerated then they’re already caught, yeah?

If you're blocking the entrance to a hospital with a vehicle the police will move you. Is that what this woman is doing? Why isn't he blocking the car directly behind him?

Do we want individuals deciding for themselves what constitutes "idiocy" and enforcing that? The guy in the photo is a nurse. There are countless lawsuits against nurses for negligence resulting in people's death every year. The point being is no one is infallible just because they work in the health care industry. I have no idea what the woman in the photo was doing. What if she doesn't work for a company that keeps paying it's employees during the quarantine? What if she operates a small business that's going under and she can't pay her mortgage? She has no right to question why her business is closed but liquor stores (as they are here in MA) are open?

Who the HECK is this twirk? ^

3i9UN2D.gif

He was in Willy Wonka and the virus got him... :rose: :eh:

I knew him from the Goodies, which we used to get on CBC right after school. They were silly and surreal and they made me laugh like hell at the time.

And we can certainly use laughter, especially now.

Thanks, Rhyta! I own the Johnny Depp version.

Dude, the original is vastly superior.

It so is. Tim Burton annoys the holy f out of me.

Same here. Although I do enjoy Pee Wee’s Big Adventure

I like that but I love Beetlejuice, What happened to THAT Tim Burton?

I forgot about Beetlejuice. Okay so that makes 2 Burton movies I enjoy.

And having just checked his filmography, I give him a 2-6 record.
