vaportrailer
RushMoving PicturesVapor Trails Hey there! You are a great guy and a excellent Rush Forum Member. I know you are not alone with your love for "Vapor Trails." So since you rank the record so high in your brain and in your life if you have the time could you please tell me why you love this album so much? I love every Rush Record except this one and trust me, when it came out I loved it. Forget about the production and the reissue. It's not about the sound to me. Over the years I just can't get through it. It has a few shining moments but for my ears it's a drag. Please explain....... Earl "Hush now, don't explain..." - Billie Holiday"I Can't Explain" - some punk dickheads Vapor Trails was the album that got me interested in Rush again, after I wandered away just after Signals came out. Got into it thru the Rush In Rio dvd and the Trailer Park Boys episode that had Alex on it. Briefly, what jazzes me about this album: - Neil dispenses with the percussion and clever drum parts, and thrashes out on a basic kit in a very Keith Moon-esque fashion. His drumming is simple and direct and full of guts. He sounds like he's playing for his life here, and probably is. Sure, there are no real killer fills (although the last bit of "How It Is" has a nice tumble down the toms), but his playing is supportive and creative, and fulfills his "make up something interesting & complimentary" maxim (mentioned in A Work in Progress). - I enjoy Neil's lyrics here, for the most part. Oblique, uncertain, and weather obsessed, with some of his most interesting imagery (to my old ear at least). - The songs generally have a decent amount of energy, which is lacking in, say, Snakes and Arseholes. :P It is too long - there are 3 songs that I tend to skip every time unless I'm on a long drive - and some of the tunes overstay their welcome by a minute or so, but for palpable energy, this kicks as much ass as the debut. The debut is another one that I keep coming back to. Dunno why, but I love that f*ckin album. Rock n' Roll n' Rutsey!

Blue J
Quick Hit!! Hahaaaa!! I love it, Earl!! You and I need to hit up the casino together sometime! 1. Permanent Waves2. Hold Your Fire3. Hemispheres Clockwork Angels is up pretty high, too...but I can’t put it in the top three, in place of any of those. And on any given day, the order of those albums in the top three spots are pretty much interchangeable. But yeah, those are the ones. Today. Sorry my friend! I forgot I wrote this thread! Hahaha! You caught my "slot machine" metaphor. Heck yes! I'll meet you at a casino! FUN! I won about 1400 last night, Earl- all on slots! I did not “Roll the Bones”, but I kind of wanted to! The local places here are all slots and horse racing, and that’s it. Anyway, I thought of you while I was racking up my winnings, my friend. I went and had steak and shrimp for dinner to celebrate! I am in a Permanent Waves kind of mood this morning... RUSH ON :haz:
