How does someone not know what that means by now? It's been around for years already. It's not a reference to Neil specifically. It's just for anyone you consider the Greatest Of All Time at what they do. Edited by J2112YYZ

acronym commonly used with athletes.

Probably attributed by many when discussing drummers over the years and certainly by many more posthumously.

I haven’t known for all that long, actually; I’m still getting used to it as an acronym.

Seriously? It's been around since probably the early 2000s.

You gotta be a sports fan?

Ugh that's what they call Tom Brady.

Well if Tom Brady is not a sports fan, he’s been in the wrong profession his whole life.

I'm still not over my annoyance at how the term "goat" in sports used to refer to a person who had made a screw-up that caused a game loss, and then suddenly it became an acronym meaning something so far on the other side of the spectrum. But I guess that's neither here nor there. Carry on!

That was weird for me, too.

Still is sometimes.

GOAT is a misleading acronym. When we call someone the "Greatest Of All Time", we're being totally subjective in our opinion. There is hardly anything factual about it. It's all biased opinions.

How can you objectively compare drummers, athletes, or anyone across generations, and then declare one person the "Greatest"? You can't.

Any particular fan of any particular team or band might call their favorite team/band member the greatest of all time. So what? Joe DiMaggio or Ted Williams are arguably the greatest of all time. Same for Neil Peart or John Bonham. In the end, it's all harmless.

I agree completely. Hope you didn't think I Intended otherwise

Yeah, traditionally "goat" was used as the guy that got close but blew it.

I knew it!

Wish I didn’t look.

Ali

Floats like a butterfly stings like a bee.

Buddy Rich is a GOAT.

So is Keith Moon.

Gene Krupa.

Max Roach

Louie Bellson.

Tony Williams

Billy Cobham

Stewart Copeland

Dave Weckl

Steve Gadd

Neil would have agreed.

I was very lucky to meet

Cobham

Weckl

Phillips

Gadd

In my life.

All at Yoshi’s.

Sushi jazz club

Oakland Ca

My special place

Even saw Michael Schenker there.

Meet and greet too.

Anyway

I mentioned my passion and love for Neil Peart to

Cobham

Weckl

Phillips

And Gadd

Weckl and Phillips worked with Neil on the “Burning For Buddy” records.

All four drummers were very respectful about the legacy of Neil’s drumming.

But!!

Well I will keep that to myself.

Not at all.

The whole GOAT thing is a pet peeve of mine, so I tend to rant about it....LOL

Oh, man!! You named off some percussion royalty there, my friend. My favorites out of that list are Rich, Krupa, Tony Williams (just mid-blowing!), Cobham, and Mr. Triplets, Steve Gadd!

I would add Vinnie Colaiuta and Bill Bruford, too.
