Why try? I know why

This feeling inside me says it's time I was gone

Clear head, new life ahead

It's time I was king, now not just one more pawn

Fly by night, away from here

Change my life again

Fly by night, goodbye my dear

My ship isn't coming and I just can't pretend

Moon rise, thoughtful eyes

Staring back at me from the window beside

No fright or hindsight

Leaving behind that empty feeling inside

Fly by night, away from here

Change my life again

Fly by night, goodbye my dear

My ship isn't coming and I just can't pretend

Fly by night, away from here

Change my life again

Fly by night, goodbye my dear

My ship isn't coming and I just can't pretend

Start a new chapter

Find what I'm after

It's changing every day

The change of the seasons

Is enough of a reason

To want to get away

Quiet and pensive

My thoughts apprehensive

The hours drift away

Leaving my homeland

Playing a lone hand

My life begins today

Fly by night, away from here

Change my life again

Fly by night, goodbye my dear

My ship isn't coming and I just can't pretend

My ship isn't coming and I just can't pretend

Fly by night, away from here

Change my life again

Fly by night, goodbye my dear

My ship isn't coming and I just can't pretend

My ship isn't coming and I just can't pretend

My ship isn't coming and I just can't pretend

Who's come to slay the dragon

Come to watch him fall ...

Those are indeed lovely lyrics, but they're not Neil's.

thanks <3 of course you are right, my mistake ;)

So many... but one in particular that resonates strongly for me

If the future's looking dark

We're the ones who have to shine

If there's no one in control

We're the ones who draw the line

Though we live in trying times

We're the ones who have to try

Though we know that time has wings

We're the ones who have to fly

Prime Mover has always been a favorite:

From a point on the compass

To magnetic north

The point of the needle moving back and forth

From the point of entry-

Until the candle is burned

The point of departure is not to return

I have always loved these ones, too. I like that the last line of that stanza, and the one that mirrors it - "the point of the journey is not to arrive" both have a double meaning. The point of departure is the exact place that the journey starts, so it is behind you once you start, and therefore does not return. But also the point, as in the prescribed meaning, is to keep going...to not return. I love that.

That's too many words to put on that "cat hanging onto a bar" motivational poster though

The entire lyrics to Natural Science but especially the last part...

Wave after wave will flow with the tide

and bury the world as it does

tide after tide will flow and recede

leaving life to go on as it was

*Sigh*

...Sublime

I want to do an extravagant graphic novel to display Natural Science in visual form, but obviously I couldn`t do it justice. Better to leave the images in my head :notworthy:

Hi, just joined and loving reading all your fav lyrics: There are so many, its impossible to choose. So

Alternating currents

In a tidewater surge

Rational resistance

To an unwise urge

Love this and the whole of Prime Mover. Just reminds me of String Theory and ancient civilizations that discovered electricity, going forward from that to "watch the world go round". Just amazing.

From Subdivisions:

Growing up, it all seems so one-sided

Opinions all provided

The future pre-decided

Detached and subdivided

In the mass-production zone

Nowhere is the dreamer

Or the misfit so alone

I love Subdivisions because it says to me we need to flip this reality or constant triangulation we experience on this planet and see the truth of what is going on around us. Very clear meaning song and video and a discourse that makes you think. Should we ever stop seeking and being curious,,nope.

This is what immediately springs to mind:

What you own is your own kingdom

What you do is your own glory

What you love is your own power

What you live is your own story

In your head is the answer

Let it guide you along

Let your heart be the anchor

And the beat of your own song

The most underrated song in their library IMO.

The most personally meaningful to me are:

A boy walks with his best friend

Through the fields of early May

They walk a while in silence

One close, one far away

----------------------------------------

We are secrets to each other

Each one's life a novel

No-one else has read

Even joined in bonds of love

We're linked to one another

By such slender threads

-------------------------------------------

The hypocrites are slandering

The sacred halls of Truth

Ancient nobles showering

Their bitterness on youth

Can't we find

The minds that made us strong

Can't we learn

To feel what's right and wrong

-------------------------------------------

Cinderella Man

Hang on to your plans

Try as they might

They cannot steal your dreams

I have considered posting these lyrics for at least a year, scrolled back to make sure, nothing.

More of a "lyrics that place you there", than lyrics that are great to read with the music:

Test For Echo:

(Think of the context, the video vertigo, don't touch that dial, miles of yellow tape - silhouetted chalk lines)

He writes: "Tough-talking hood boys in pro-team logo knock-offs" but as things get worse, it's "Nail-biting hood boys in borrowed ties and jackets".

Brilliant?!

While all of his lyrics are beautiful, some of them reach me more than others, the first one to come to mind being the opening lyrics in Fountain of Lamneth.

I. In the Valley

I am born

I am me

I am new

I am free

Look at me

I am young

Sight unseen

Life unsung...

My eyes have just been opened

And they're open very wide

Images around me

Don't identify inside

Images around me

Just one blur I recognize

The one that soothes and feeds

My way of life is easy

And as simple are my needs

Peak Peart, IMO:

The look in your eyes as you head for the door is a cold fire.

and

The pattern of moonlight on the bedroom floor is a cold fire.

Still relevant today as it was back in th days of the OJ Simpson madness.

I find no absolution

In my rational point of view

Maybe some things are instinctive

But there’s one thing you could do

You could try to understand me

And I could try to understand you

He was on such a roll in the mid to latter ‘80s in particular, IMO…from Grace Under Pressure through Hold Your Fire, just incredible.
