Wow we have practically the same ranking!

you know i've going through their work now and as much as i enjoy Pray for the Wicked in the grand Scheme it is lesser than what came before.

Bachelor is really special and i love it.

Pretty. Odd.  is a pop/boroque pop masterpiece.

And the new one is just a Elvis costello-like romp.  it's over the top.  I fell vocally it's almost Brando trolling his naysayers, lol.  but i LOVE IT!!!!!!

He really does get better every album.

I think I first heard about Panic when Bachelor came out. I have a specific memory of being on a band trip in Ireland and a couple of big Panic fans in the guard hanging out with my friend and me and showing us the video for Emperor’s New Clothes very excitedly. I didn’t take to it immediately (and I still think that song is after all a bit more pomp and circumstance than substance), but looking back I think that record really cemented Brendon’s continued relevance and success and actually brought a lot of new fans on board as well. Pray was the necessary follow up to capitalize on Bachelor’s momentum with songs that might actually rub shoulders with Ed Sheeran and Drake on the pop charts, and now after having earned the long break between albums, Brendan is finally returning to his roots on Viva Las Vengeance.

7. Out of the Silent Planet

8. Faith Hope Love

9. XV

3/5

10. Ear Candy

Changing this around a bit and also adding in their latest album.. (4 star ratings)

1. Please Come Home... Mr. Bulbous****

2. Gretchen Goes To Nebraska****

3. Dogman***

4. Three Sides of One***

5. King's X***

6. Faith Hope Love***

7. Tape Head***

the bottom four and and top two album placements are the only ones which are set in stone, i think. also i gave manic moonlight a listen recently and it's better than i previously gave it credit for, and naturally so is ear candy. black like sunday is their only one which isn't so well.

Probably done this already, but here I go again (on my own):

Machine Head:

The masterpiece selection:

1. The Blackening

2. Bloodstones And Diamonds

3. Of Kingdoms And Crowns

4. Burn My Eyes

5. The Locust

6. The More Things Change

7. Through The Ashes Of Empires

Then a huge dive in quality:

8. The Burning Red

9. Catharsis

10. Supercharger

Tears For Fears

1. Songs From The Big Chair [Everybody Wants To Rule The World]
2. The Hurting [Change]
3. Elemental [Elemental]
4. The Seeds Of Love [Woman In Chains]
5. The Tipping Point [The Tipping Point]
6. Raoul And The Kings Of Spain [Raoul And The Kings Of Spain]
7. Everybody Loves A Happy Ending [Quiet Ones]

It pains me to put Tipping Point that low, but this is TFF for christs sake. I assumed a smaller discography like this would be easier to rank, I thought wrong.

I can do this now......i this i have a good grip on this now.

will be kinda different i think from Segue's

Machine Head

ok......

1. The Blackening

2. Bloodstones and Diamonds

3. Unto The Locusts

4.  Burn My Eyes

5. Through The Ashes of Empires

6. Of Kingdoms and Crown

7. Catharsis (i defend thee lol)

8. the More Things Change

than the shits.

9. Burning Red

10. Surpercharger.

The New one is a bit low.  it's great a return to form.  but in my recent spin......I do NOT like the production choices.  it is heavy......true.  but very slick and clinical to my ears.

and i just can't un-hear it now.

so that's my ranking......is it your ideal ranking?  probably not.

The post-BM era took me forever to warm too. Now that I have, your list makes sense!

Every album is amazing.

i think it's amazing how fast this band grew and matured.  every album adds something and builds up the last.

i can imagine they grew faster than the fanbase could keep up.

I struggle to use the word "mature" because Remission, for example, sounds like many bands of their styles peak release several albums in!

They just never stop exploring their style. To me, they are the closest to Rush metal has ever seen.

Now My next band i listened to ALL out of order over the last three days,  but this band has become a major fav one that this forum introduced me too.  One that i can't believe i missed but oh well.  i know them now, lol

Testament (not including thaat re-makes album, BTW)

12. Demonic

11.Souls of Black

10. Practice what You Preach

9. Brotherhood Of the Snake

8. The Legacy

7.  Low

6.  Titans Of Creation

5.  The Gathering

4.  New Order

3. The Ritual

2. Dark Roots of Earth.

1. Formation of Damnation.

I want not make clear almost no Testament are bad.  However they are one band i feel their classic thrash period is the weakest era.  to me they only got better.  the only stinker i found IMO was Demonic.

I regard the top three albums as:

1. The Legacy

2. The New Order

3. Dark Roots Of Earth

After that I pretty much love it all. I'm really surprised you're not big on the early stuff. Demonic is last.

These three albums are kinda all number one for me.

well I love the new order most out the early stuff Practice is ok but not as strong as the first two IMO. And Souls sounds rushed cause it was.

i prefer early Metallica to Early Testament honestly.

That's fair. Testament, Metallica and Megadeth have amazing early runs.

I used to dislike Practice, but I now really love it.  Souls Of Black is the odd one. Never sure why but I find it quite forgettable, but I enjoy it when it's playing.

You will never convince me that Dark Roots is not their best album. But if there was one to pick over it, you chose correctly.

I feel it's time I redid Rush, as my tastes in their music have shifted a lot:

19. Test For Echo

18. Presto

17. Counterparts

16. Vapor Trails

15. Fly By Night

14. Power Windows

13. Caress Of Steel

12. Rush

11. Signals

10. Snakes And Arrows

9. Hemispheres

8. 2112

7. A Farewell To Kings

6. Permanent Waves

5. Hold Your Fire

4. Clockwork Angels

3. Roll The Bones

2. Grace Under Pressure

1. Moving Pictures

Happy to report I love something about every album, and some albums that I used to rate really highly (Presto, Caress Of Steel, Vapor Trails) have slipped, whilst others I used to rate lower (Clockwork Angels, Snakes And Arrows, Hemispheres) have greatly improved for me.

My least favourite, Test For Echo, is in its way a truly enjoyable, if curious, album. Meanwhile Presto has the band's most boring production mixed with a collection of songs that are fun but hardly set my world on fire.

Moving Pictures is just a masterpiece to me. My top three are really set in stone, as Roll The Bones has become a personal favourite full of songs that just warm my heart, especially when depression hits

Albums featuring John Payne in a lead role

1. Silent Nation - Asia [Gone Too Far]

2. Window To The Soul - GPS [Window To The Soul]

3. Arena - Asia [Into The Arena/Arena]

4. Dukes Of The Orient - Dukes Of The Orient [Strange Days]

5. Aura - Asia [Kings Of The Day]

6. Aqua - Asia [Love Under Fire]

7. Aria - Asia [Desire]

8. Freakshow - Dukes Of The Orient [Until Then]

I've been on my John Payne kick this week and theres lots of great melodic rock here to share. The first 4 albums in this list are all ones I highly recommend.

GPS features Guthrie Govan on guitar and Ryo Okumoto (Spocks Beard) on Keyboards and is an excellent heavy prog album. So unfortunate this lineup never released anything else.

Controversial opinion, I like Spending The Disease more than Among The Living.

I can see it. STD has a bit of a NWOBHM thing going on in the approach that makes the songs pop really well. I just don’t love the production. ATL sounds almost as good as Master Of Puppets, but the songs are full on thrash rather than having much of that Maiden / Priest flavor anymore. Both great albums.

So i got back into this band after A LONG layoff.

i was a big fan but stopped after All Hope is Gone.  Decided to come back after i saw glowing reviews of the last album from 2019 on youtube.  Sooooo.

Slipknot.

1. Vol 3: The Sublime Verses

2. Iowa

3.  We Are Not your Kind

4. All Hope is Gone

5.  Slipknot

6. .5 The Gray Chapter

.5 is just a band working shit out from their bassist dying and you really hear that haze over it.  a bit too depressing to enjoy knowing what happened.......but yet again i love Iowa and that album is........a lot.  but The gray Chapter kinda misses for me.

We are not your Kind DESERVES to be that high.  I was surprised how uniformly great it is from top to bottom.  oh and people are WAY to hard on All hope Is gone.  i regularly see it bottoming out lists and i love it.

and hey i'm just in time for the new album very soon.
