The Threatin bamboozle

So apparently this dude Jared Threatin made a bunch of fake live videos and interviews promoting his music (which is complete cringe), bought a bunch of fake likes from bots on social media and youtube, and used the fake hype to convince some actual hardworking musicians to tour with him, promising only 300 dollars but that the tour would be all expenses paid by the venues. Then he used the same hype to convince a bunch of very real and sizable European venues to book his tour, promising hundreds of fans would show up. Surprise surprise, the venues wouldn’t pay for the musicians’ food and lodging, causing two of them to back out at the last second while the other didn’t have money for a ticket home and had to stick it out for the tour. Immediately nobody came to the first few gigs he played, and before long the venues started talking to each other and found this guy out as a fraud. Now he’s trying to say he was showing how screwed up the music industry is and that it was all a masterful hoax, but it looks more like he tried to buy fame and didn’t get very far before he hurt enough people to get exposed as a fraud.

And of course links to a couple of his music videos:

Thoughts? Obviously the guy has scummy morals and a destructive ego, but I can’t help but enjoy how awfully cringe this music is.

Everyone involved in this is an idiot. The guy who tried this scam for believing it could work and all the people who fell for it. None of this comes off as the least bit believable. Only getting paid three hundred dollars for a European tour? How does that seem legit to anybody? Even if you penny pinch, that amount of money wouldn't last long traveling across the continent. All expenses paid or not that's still a pretty small budget for someone on the road.

Also, what touring act gets all expenses paid? Even Metallica or The Rolling Stones couldn't get their management to do that and they've reached the do whatever the f**k we want status.

Wow, people are f***in stupid.

lol

he's almost as bad as Steven Wilson

Coming from a guy with J-pop or K-pop teenagers in his signature.

Just a slight difference, Steven Wilson actually has a band, writes music, sings, plays guitars, etc. If you don't like him, that's one thing, but to compare him to this shyster is kind of silly.

Exactly. What a bizarre comparison, especially coming from someone who supports some of the most manufactured pop bands ever formed.

Its been said before, any publicity is great publicity. Say what you like ( and many are talking about this guy) this guy has got publicity, even with that Cheddar.

I think that just about sums things up for human nature.

Normally I would agree with the publicity thing. But in this case it's all negative. It will take a miracle for this guy to be taken seriously in the music industry if that is truly what he wants to do. He would have to stay quiet for several years and have some really stellar material for that to happen.
