The way people online are going on and on about this, you'd think it was the friggin' western schism and Reformation.

Are you new to how Star Wars fans discuss things?

it a little over the top with this movie.

Well, that's what happens when they screw things up so bad it divides the fan base.

Well I guess half the fan base thinks they screwed up. I have small quibbles with some of the silly humor and one decision made at the very end but overall I thought it was pretty kickass. And I'm a star wars nerd who actually saw a new hope in theaters in 1977.

I and probably many other TRFers are in the same boat of seeing A New Hope back in the cinemas in ‘77.

From just talking to friends and family, we do seem like we’re split on liking and disliking LJ. We do seem to be in agreement about most of the things we dislike though (most of the humor, casino planet stuff, space Leia Poppins, etc.).

As for fan comments online, I’ve read none of them except for what’s on TRF. And judging from what you guys are saying here, it sounds like it’s a good thing I don’t read all of that.

And Abrams & Co. could easily make everything all better in Episode IX. It could turn out that the ending to The Last Jedi isn't what we think it is.

yeah the Casino stampede and mary poppins leah was also questionable. But definitely a lot to like for me. I'll be curious what my GF thinks when I take her next week. She tolerates Star Wars for my benefit.

I would like to think we still do not know the full story of Rey's parentage.

Perhaps, but I rather liked that storyline and how it turned out. The Force chose to create Anakin, and it may have also chosen a nobody scavenger girl.

It gives us all a good reminder that the Force is not just about the Skywalker family. The new generation of Jedi will consist of many sentient species - not just humans.

Well, even in the prequels the Jedi consisted of many different aliens. So no doubt on that front.

As for the nobody scavenger girl angle, after watching LJ I think “yeah, she’s a nobody.” Force Awakens and Last Jedi have had plenty of parallels and I can see Rey as being Vader’s parallel...in the sense of being the next Chosen One. I also can imagine Kylo Ren being jealous about that, throwing one of his tantrums, destroying some star destroyer panel with his light saber while crying “It should’ve been me.”

I joke but I can imagine this being what happens.

Why would anyone need to be reminded that The Force isn't just about the Skywalker family? They already established that in all the other movies. Obi-Wan, Yoda, Palpatine and all the Jedi in the prequels made that pretty obvious.

Because a huge percentage of fans convinced themselves that Rey just had to be directly related to Luke or Han & Leia.

Many fans are still holding out that Rey's "true parentage" has not yet been revealed. Her nobody junk trader heritage just isn't satisfactory.

Other problems that recently came to mind:

Why did those bombers move so f***ing slow, why couldn't they fly as fast as any other ship?

How did those bombs "fall" in outer space where there is no gravity? Did the writers just think it would be cool to have WW2 style bombers in outer space without considering how things actually work in space?

How did that woman open the bomb doors in the cold, brutal vacuum of space and not get sucked out (or die) like, oh I don't know, Leia Poppins?

Why did those canon blasts arc through space WHEN THERE IS NO F'ING GRAVITY IN SPACE????

Why did the writers make such a stupid, stupid movie? Why?

Blah blah blah. Take that blather and stuff it in your pipe. I’ll have fun when they stop making insultingly bad and stupid movies. Just because it’s a Star Wars movie doesn’t mean I have to swallow all the horseshit they’re shoveling or turn a blind eye to nonsense when I see it. Fück you and your “please don’t forget to have fun”.

Condescending asshat.

I haven't. It's just that this wasn't a fun movie. The last one was certainly fun. I have no idea what they were trying to do with this mess of a film.

I thought it was a little better than TFA, as it didnt follow Ep 5 as close as 7 did to 4. Loved the lightspeed into the 1st order command ship. I thought it should have been Leia and an injured Ackbar doing that with both their hands on the lever.

For me, the destruction of Snoke's Command Ship was one of the best battle scenes of the entire series. It may have been short, but it was huge.... :haz:

Not sure either, but I'm certain it wasn't to teach physics. :P

And I knew when it was best to take potty breaks.... :laughing guy: :laughing guy:

When I saw it one of my buddies leaned over during the multiple Rey scene in the cave and says, “Ah man I gotta take a piss but I don’t wanna leave.” I just nod. He leans over again, “This looks like an important scene but this piss is an emergency.” Annoyed, i nodded again but didn’t say anything. The scene continues a little bit more and my pal is moving back and forth uncomfortably in his seat. He leans over again and says, “Yeah I think I might have to leave.” I reply, “Go take a piss you bastard!”
