I'll give it a C. I was very disappointed by it. It was way, way, WAY too long, for a start. It dragged horribly in places. The whole code breaker/casino plot that took up the middle of the film was totally pointless and should have been cut - it was just there to give Finn something to do because Rey was off doing the only important bit (and splitting up Rey and Finn for most of the film was a huge mistake for me as their relationship was one of the better aspects of TFA). They spent just as much time here retreading stuff from the previous films. Even the throne room scene, which was the best bit of the movie, was just a RotJ replay, light v dark side, emperor type character, space battle outside etc etc. And when that looked like doing something interesting, in having Rey and Kylo team up, they bottled it and went down the predictable path and wasted the chance. Luke's storyline didn't sit comfortably with me. Hammill did a good job but I thought it was a wasted opportunity as well.

The worst thing for me was that I found it a bit uninvolving. I realised, after the throne room fight, that I didn't care what happened to the characters. I wasn't expecting that because I really liked Rey, Finn and Poe in TFA.

On the plus side, it was good to see Carrie Fisher one last time. I thought they'd killed Leia off via cgi at one point but Luke had obviously trained her in the ways of the Force. I wonder how they'll deal with the character in ep 9.

I liked the codebreaker storyline. I bet he ends up in the final movie of this trilogy. Kind of like Han started, "To the highest bidder".

I liked it, too. There is much potential for the character of DJ the codebreaker. Finn and Rose will obviously want to make him pay for his treachery, but the Resistance could also want to employ his services to help them defeat the First Order once and for all.

^ Actually now that I think about it R1 and 6 are kind of a tie for me

They’re the two that’d be the closest (points-wise, if there were such a scale)...maybe like an A- and B+ respectively. Empire would certainly be an A+ and A New Hope an A. So maybe like this:

Empire: A+

New Hope: A

Return: A-

Rogue One: B+

Force Awakens: B

Last Jedi: B-

Revenge: D+

Clones: D

Phantom: F dammit!!!

You guys must be hardcore Star Wars !! I thoroughly enjoyed Phantom, Attack and Clones. Not nearly on par with the first 3 movies, but definitely not as bad as you guys think.

After sleeping on it, I'm not sure I'm ready to put this above 5. Above 6, 3, and R1, yes, but above 5? I'm gonna have to wait till I see it again tomorrow morning to figure that out. And if I do like it more than 5, then beating out 7 is still unlikely, though I feel 8 has more depth than 7. Also I'm pretty confident it won't top 4, as nothing seems to be able to. 4 is so perfect and it starts without any preconceived ideas of who these characters have to be or how it's going to continue after its finale. It stands on its own and still blows me away every time. Not something I'm sure they're ever going to be able to beat in this trilogy or the next. But hey, 8 is still an A+ for me.

Yes! Also I don't get why people hate Phantom so much more than Clones. Much as enjoy all three prequels, even I'll admit half of Clones is barely watchable because of the "romance" between Anakin and Padme and how terribly the whole thing is performed (and written). Phantom is heartwarming! Solid B- from me at worst.

With all due respect to everyone, this is the biggest trap (yes, IT'S A TRAP!!) for Star Wars fans. Constantly comparing a new release to the other films, ranking them, slotting one film as better or worse than others, scrutinizing them to the point of obsession.....

Luke tried to tell us.....This is not going to go the way you think!......but we do not listen! Our pre-conceived expectations of what the characters are going to do and where the storyline is going are the main cause of our disappointment. Fans should free their minds of everything - the legendary greatness of the original trilogy, the failures of the prequels and everything else. Experience the current episodes for what they are, and not for what they aren't. :) :)

With all due respect, I refuse to let the past die, or kill it if I must. That path is opposed to the light side. ;)

The first thing I though was it was going to be Lando. In a casino, in a high stakes game? Now that would've been kick ass to see him (at some point) with Chewbacca back on the Millennium Falcon!

I’m not sure what “You guys must be hardcore Star Wars !!” is supposed to mean.

Top 3 Reasons Why I Gave Phantom an F:

1) little Ani...hated that kid the first time I saw it in the cine

2) Midiclorins...the Force is nothing but molecules

3) Jar Jar...intended comedy that wasn’t funny to me

Bonus garbage:

4) too much CGI

5) Maul’s just a thug

6)

Ani: I don’t want to leave you mom!

Mom: You must Ani.

Ani: But I can’t.

Mom: It’s your destiny.

Ani: Ok.

The good about Phantom:

1) Jinn & Obi vs Maul fight scene

2) film score

To me, the vast majority of bad things about the Star Wars films have to do with bad dialgoue and bad acting. The CGI overload was an issue, and the Ewoks and JarJar.......but the dialogue......even Mark Hamill hated some of it. A smart script and better actors could have saved all the films.

Yoda was one of the best things about Last Jedi. Though brief, he fit in perfectly and looked good too.

Just my take, but Finn and Rose were just filler. Unless Episode IX features something unexpectedly huge from Finn, he is just filler to me. He's a solid and likable enough character, but non-essential.

i acually liked him a lot in TFA

they really downgraded him in this film.

No huge loss though.

It's because of Poe Dameron. Did you sense the spark between him and Rey at the end? The "Force" will be with them in Episode IX. ;) ;)

Rey: I’m Rey.

Poe: Yeah, I know.

Oh yeah, they definitely want each other. :sarcastic:

:P

I guess since Finn & Rose are prepped to pair off, they got to pair the hotshot pilot with someone. Oh hey, might as well be the cute little Jedi star. Both couples have the next flick to get it on! :P

((I’m good with nobody being paired off in this trilogy.))

Even if i was......Anakin and Padme would have murdered the desire in me "shudder"

They would have been a good romance...if they had just not spoken at all.

[Portman, to Lucas: You want me to say these shit lines? REALLY?! ] :laughing guy:

Just got back. I liked it overall. Much better than TFA which was a huge disappointment.

Things I didn’t like:

Poe thinks he’s starlord

If Rey’s parents were nobodies and she had no training why does she so easily use the force. I really want an explanation for this.

The way Luke went out.

Things I liked:

They nailed the casting for Rey. She kills it.

Seeing imperial guards/supreme leader guards in action.

It’s good to see crazy plans and ideas end up not working sometimes like the Finn/rose mission and the rebel attack at the base in the rust buckets.

Besides Han and Leia. i was never into Star wars for people pairing off.

Anakin and Padme are the reason episode two is the worst one.
