What a shocker...this was a great band, with catchy songs like "Blood and Roses" and "Behind a Wall of Sleep". Pat was 62. I didn't know he was in bad health.

One of my favorite bands from the 80s. Fun band to crank up the amp and play along with. Obviously heavily influenced by the Beatles with more power, but they found a niche and did it well. Nothing pretentious, just good straightforward power pop.

A couple of months ago I browsed some recent live videos and Pat had gotten big as a house. Not sure what the health details were but it appears he wasn't in a physically healthy place. RIP.

TheRushForum member Lorraine and others will appreciate this.

The Smithereens were asked by Tom Petty to be his opening act on a few 2013 US Tour Dates.

A couple of tributes on Petty from guitarist Jim Babjak here and here.

Here's the band's 2011 hit single 'Sorry' below that Tom Petty dug.

Local heroes here that made NJ proud with their national success ... This is awful news

I didn't know Pat lived in Scotch Plains, which is about 10 minutes from my shop ..

Thank you Pat for the music and giving us something to be proud of ... You will be missed, but definitely remembered

RIP

What ? I see they had a few gigs scheduled for early 2018. Sorry to hear. Loved this band in the 80's-90's.

RIP

Heard that song a lot in college in the early 00s when I listened to Richard Blades Flashback Lunch on KROQ and was it featured in a car commercial that ran a lot on tv at the time.

RIP
