 I’ll sum it up:

Oscar-nominated for Best Original Screenplay. It’s not just for kids.

Poignant commentaries on society - fear of “different people”, fear of aliens, great people being expected to conform and be “normal”

Slick James Bond-like imagery and background score

Smart usage of the Parr family’s superpowers as personal metaphors:

Bob/Mr. Incredible - Super strong, indestructable, supports and protects the family,

Helen/Elasti-Girl: Stretched out, multi-tasking, has to be flexible with everyone’s needs

Violet/Invisi-Girl: Angst-filled teen girl, feels invisible/unappreciated, scared of her emotions, forces people away

Daschle/Dash: Young, full of speed/energy, but with no focus or direction

Baby Jack-Jack: Newborn, unlimited possibilities, can become anything he wants

Lots of laughs and intellectual entertainment!

Good job. Glad you liked it. I thought it was boring.

:ebert: The Incredibles is one of my top five movies ever, animated or not. Your defense is spot on. Agree with the James Bond imagery but there's also a classic Johnny Quest vibe too, which I love. Also, in addition to the social commentaries you listed, though similar to the expectation to conform, is the critique of society's celebration of mediocrity, while decrying the exceptional:

"Everyone is special Dash"... "That's just another way of saying no one is!"

"I can't believe you don't want to go to your own son's graduation!"... "It's not a graduation! He's moving from the 4th grade to the 5th grade! It's psychotic; they keep finding new ways to celebrate mediocrity, but if someone is genuinely exceptional..."

What a fantastic movie!

The same social commentary is found in The Trees. Not only are great people/trees chasized for being great, they're legally forced to be mediocre.

Just imagine if Einstein and all the other Greats had been forced to not be great. Our world would be a pathetic pile of mediocrity, unoriginality, and boredom.

Caught an early showing with my best friend.

Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 94%

We both agreed that was criminally low.

In all seriousness, this is one of the greatest movies I have ever seen. You will be surprised how much this exceeds your expectations. Otherwise you don't have a pulse.

This being what you loved about the original, I have to say...

That is the tip of the iceberg in the sequel.

I’m not surprised. Part 1 was superb. I give it an A+ grade without hesitation.

I’m going to check out the sequel as soon as it reaches these shores.

I wasn't crazy about the first one. Cars and Nemo were better.

Cars is terrible.

I will go see The Incredibles 2, but I am rather anxious about it.

All I know about the plot is that Helen Parr/Elasti-Girl is out and about being the Superhero, with Bob Parr/Mr. Incredible staying home with the kids. I fear that it will continue the current trend of portraying men as incompetent dorks.

Hope I'm wrong!! :o

Without spoiling anything, I think idea you're worried about is touched upon and portrayed, but altogether rejected in the end. I had as much fun watching Mr. Incredible being a dad as I did watching Elastigirl being a superhero.

Okay I've said enough.

It's clearly not as good as the outright classics, Nemo, Incredibles, Up, Ratatoullie, Toy Story, (I hope none of those are controversial, lol) but I think the original has many memorable moments.

I haven’t seen Nemo or Up but Ratatouille and Toy Story are high quality.

I’m surprised that the Toy Story series was able keep up that level of goodness too. It’s up there as one of the best trilogies of all time imho.

Below Toy Story and Incredibles but still excrllent is Wall-E.

Forgot Wall-E! Knew I missed something!

Also the beginning of Up will break your heart, either that or you're dead inside. Excellent film. Excellent soundtrack as well.

I give The Incredibles 2 a solid :ebert: :ebert: .

For starters, Bao, the short film at the beginning, was beautiful and magnificent. I had forgotten how Pixar makes such great short films.

This much-tardy sequel was very entertaining! It dragged a bit at the beginning, but then revved up really well. It didn't match the greatness of the first film, but I didn't expect it to do so. Visually stunning, brilliant colors, and "Auntie Edna" stole the show again....
