All Joe Satriani albums I've heard but especially:-

Surfing with the Alien

Flying in a blue dream

Mike Oldfield's Crisis album has a great Instrumental piece on side 1 (which provides the albums title). Most but not all of side 2 have vocals though such as the UK hit 'Moonlight Shadow'. I just think this is bit different from some of the other more symphonic (?) instrumentals or albums he wrote in that it's the most prog-rock album I've heard from him.

Jazz provides a lot of instrumental albums and I quite like:-

Charles Mingus' Mingus Ah Um

and

Miles Davis' Aura

I have Steve Morse's Structural Damage too which is good. Although I suspect most of his albums are worth a listen.

Eric Johnson's Ah Via Musicom and Tones are good too.

Also

Frank Zappa Waka/Jawaka

Frank Zappa The Grand Wazoo

for his big band rock/jazz (mostly) instrumental stuff

As someone mentioned, the One Night in San Francisco live album is great from Al Di Meola, Paco De Lucia and John Mclaughlin. Very fast acoustic playing.

The Contemporary Guitar Sampler album is a good selection of folk guitar instrumentals - by players like Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, Gordon Giltrap and a few others, and is worth a listen if you like that sort of thing.

I listen to a fair amount of instrumental music.

Ozric Tentacles are my fave. Funky yet heavy at times. Techno metal reggae acoustic ambient world beat goodness.

Liquid tension experiment. Portnoy, petrucci and rudesses finest playing.

If you like the music of dream theater but not the singing this is for you

Of all the great guitarists i have seen ( vai, satch, johnson, petrucci, metheny, di meola etc etc) Buckethead is in a league of his own.

Been getting into hidria spacefolk lately.

Most intense instrumental show i have ever was behold the arctopus!

Flying in a blue dream

Not to be a dick but the song Ride has vocals nearly throughout. One of my favorite motorcycle songs ever.

http://youtu.be/1BOZ6Wm-vPU

Well, most of Satch's stuff is instrumental but I forgot that this album has a lot of vocal tracks too:-

"Can't Slow Down", "Strange", "I Believe", "Big Bad Moon", "The Phone Call" (and "Ride") feature him singing for the first time

I`ve got everything Joe`s done, and obviously SWTA is as good as anything in the guitar-instrumental world. Shockwave Supernova is probably the best of his recent records.

As for Steve Vai, I rate Real Illusions: Reflections very highly, and Steve Morse Band`s Split Decision is great, along with Southern Steel/ Structural Damage/ Outstanding in their Field.

I must check Buckethead out! (i.e. doing so as I write) 300+ albums is really something. Will found out shortly if the quality is high throughout.

I don`t know much more than what Ozzy said about how he wanted him in his band but he wouldn`t remove the bucket :D And that his name is Brian.

Oh, and his solos on Chinese Democracy, he`s clearly an insanely talented guy.
