The League of Cheese

Time Stand Still. The entire song is a heaping mound of cheese.

I'm surprised. I don't think I've ever heard anyone say they didn't like the lyrics. First time for everything

Where's the cheese here...?

I turn my back to the wind

To catch my breath,

Before I start off again.

Driven on,

Without a moment to spend

To pass an evening

With a drink and a friend

I let my skin get too thin

I'd like to pause,

No matter what I pretend

Like some pilgrim-

Who learns to transcend-

Learns to live

As if each step was the end

Time stand still-

I'm not looking back

But I want to look around me now

See more of the people

And the places that surround me now

Freeze this moment a little bit longer

Make each sensation a little bit stronger

Experience slips away...

I turn my face to the sun

Close my eyes.

Let my defences down-

All those wounds

That I can't get unwound

I let my past go too fast

No time to pause-

If I could slow it all down

Like some captain,

Whose ship runs aground-

I can wait until the tide comes around

Make each impression a little bit stronger

Freeze this motion a little bit longer

The innocence slips away...

Summer's going fast,

Nights growing colder

Children growing up-

Old friends growing older

Experience slips away...

I gotta tell ya, the lyrics and the melody really lift this song for me. I love it.

Cheese Up

You turn my head

I spin my wheels

Running on empty -

You know how that feels

I'm on a roll now -

Or is it a slide?

Can't be too careful

With that dangerous pride

If I could only reach that dial inside

And turn it up

FACE UP - Or you can only back down

FACE UP - Hit the target, or you better hit the ground

FACE UP - There's still time to turn the game around

FACE UP - Turn it up -

Or turn that wild card down

Turn it up

Don't complain

Don't explain

I don't think my new resolve

Can stand the strain

I'm in a groove now -

Or is it a rut?

I need some feedback

But all the lines are cut

I get so angry, but I keep my mouth shut

And turn it up

You get all squeezed up inside

Like the days were carved in stone

You get all wired up inside

And it's bad to be alone

You can go out, you can take a ride

And when you get out on your own

You get all smoothed out inside

And it's good to be alone

Turn it up

Ok, branching off from the 'Big Money' thread...

A few of you know my loathing for Middletown Dreams and Emotion detector.

I think the lyrics

dreams flow across the heartland

or

When we lift the covers from our feelings

are about as cheesy as they come.

Which lyrics strike the cheesy cord for you?

Have no cheese to add, but am happy to meet another Middletown Dreams loather. Never understood the hype over it.

I dunno. The whole thing just seems cheesy to me. Including the music. Not saying I "hate" it. It's still Rush music. It's better than what the vast majority of other artists have ever put out there. But as far as the Rush catalogue goes, it's never been one of my favorites.

One of my favorite song lyrics. The entire song just speaks to me about those desires we have and what we want out of life, but just dont have the wherewithal to go after them...for any number of reasons.

I said if love was so transcendent

I don't understand these boundaries

She said just don't disappoint me

You know how complex women are

I'll be around

If you don't let me down

Too far

It was just before sunrise

When we started on traditional roles

She said sure I'll be your partner

But don't make too many demands

:eh:

2112 - Discovery. Ugh.

Noooooo...

bite your tongue

See how it sings like a sad heart

and joyously screams out its pain.

Sounds that build high like a mountain.

Or notes that fall gently like rain.

I love those lyrics.

It's the 'Dreams flow across the heartland' that makes me cringe.

I expected better from Neil.

Seems like Captain Obvious stuff to me. Doesn't pretty much everybody say this to themselves at least 1000 times in their lifetimes?

Neil Pearts's words for Middletown Dreams lyrics:

Peart (Guitar For The Practicing Musician, 1986): "There's so much chemistry involved and there's so many intangible things that happen. There are songs where the music has been better than the lyrics or the lyrics better than the music. I think 'Middletown Dreams' is a good marriage of lyrics and music. 'Mystic Rhythms' is another one." - www.songfacts.com

It's the power and the glory

It's a war in paradise

A Cinderella story

On a tumble of the dice

And Geddy's vocal melody in this part is so cheesy, esp. when he says A Cinderella story.

You know what a Cinderella story is, right?

used in reference to a situation in which a person, team, etc., of low status or importance unexpectedly achieves great success or public recognition.

  • "the team ended their Cinderella story with a 6–5 triumph"

I like those lyrics...they go well with the song.

Well of course Neil likes them...he wrote them! :eyeroll:
