The League of Cheese

Alien Girl

Ok, branching off from the 'Big Money' thread...

A few of you know my loathing for Middletown Dreams and Emotion detector.

I think the lyrics

dreams flow across the heartland

or

When we lift the covers from our feelings

are about as cheesy as they come.

Which lyrics strike the cheesy cord for you?

Dog years

It's the season of the itch

Dog years

With every scratch it reappears

Dog years

For every sad son of a bitch

Dog years

With his tail between his ears

Some kind of trouble on the sensory screen

Camera curves over caved-in cop cars

Bleacher-creatures, would-be desperados

Clutch at plausible deniability

Don't touch that dial,

We're in denial

Until the showcase trial on TV

Some kind of pictures on the sense o'clock news

Miles of yellow tape, silhouetted chalk lines

Tough-talking hood boys in pro-team logo knock-offs

Conform to uniforms of some corporate entity

Don't change that station

It's Gangster Nation

Now crime's in syndication on TV

I knew he was different, in his sexuality

I went to his parties, as a straight minority

It never seemed a threat to my masculinity

He only introduced me to a wider reality

Luckily, I like the music so I can block out those lyrics.

It's much harder to do with the net boy net girl fandango

I think the Virtuality lyrics are unintentionally hilarious, they make me smile every time I hear them. And I like the song too.

The whiteness of confusion

Is unfolding from my mind

I stare around in wonder

Have I left my life behind

I catch the scent of ambergris

And turn my head… surprised

My gaze is caught and held

And I am helpless, mesmerized

Panacea ~ liquid grace

Oh let me touch your fragile face

Enchantment falls around me

And I know I cannot leave

Here’s a meaning for my life

A shelter from the storm

Pacify my troubles with

Her body soft and warm

Naked in our unity

A smile for every tear

Gentle hands that promise me

Comfort through the years

Yet I know I must be gone

Before the light of dawn

Panacea ~ passion pure

I can’t resist your gentle lure

My heart will lie beside you

And my wandering body grieves

I think those are fairly clever, especially the last line.

I like that show

Where they solve all the murders

That heroic point of view

It’s got justice and vengeance too

At least, so the story goes

I like that story –

Makes a satisfying case

But there’s a messy point of view

That’s sadly just as true

For so many among us

I don't hate Dog Years...it's not the band's best but it's certainly not their worst...speaking of which,

I stood at the top of the mountain

And China sang to me

In the peaceful haze of harvest time

A song of eternity

If you raise your hands to heaven

You will live a hundred years

I stood there like a mystic

Lost in the atmosphere

Maybe second worst, you can't forget about the juvenile dreck that is "Half the World".

You are crazy alien girl but you have your opinion. "Middletown Dreams" is one of the greatest RUSH songs ever made.

Speaking of cheese though....

Geez.....

I'm seeing PRIMUS on Thursday and Friday!

Signed,

Indeed. I always thought the cheesiest part of Dog Years was the line about chasing cars in doggie heaven. I like Dog Years more than most, not so much because of the lyrics though. I just think the main riffs are bitchin'.

Time Stand Still. The entire song is a heaping mound of cheese.

I'm surprised. I don't think I've ever heard anyone say they didn't like the lyrics. First time for everything

Where's the cheese here...?

I turn my back to the wind

To catch my breath,

Before I start off again.

Driven on,

Without a moment to spend

To pass an evening

With a drink and a friend

I let my skin get too thin

I'd like to pause,

No matter what I pretend

Like some pilgrim-

Who learns to transcend-

Learns to live

As if each step was the end

Time stand still-

I'm not looking back

But I want to look around me now

See more of the people

And the places that surround me now

Freeze this moment a little bit longer

Make each sensation a little bit stronger

Experience slips away...

I turn my face to the sun

Close my eyes.

Let my defences down-

All those wounds

That I can't get unwound

I let my past go too fast

No time to pause-

If I could slow it all down

Like some captain,

Whose ship runs aground-

I can wait until the tide comes around

Make each impression a little bit stronger

Freeze this motion a little bit longer

The innocence slips away...

Summer's going fast,

Nights growing colder

Children growing up-

Old friends growing older

Experience slips away...

Every Fall when the crisp first hits the air, I think of these lyrics.

Never been able to understand the hate for Half the World, but to each their own.

A Fistful of Cheese:

"We are strangers by one chromosome." Is this about Down Syndrome? :wtf:

"Sex is not a job description."

"I wasn't walking on water." All right, what were you doing then? You better not have been standing on a reef because that's just stupid...oh, I see.

"I've got...a buddha's smile...". No. No you don't. You've got an African hat.

"Aztec and Maya dance around my totem pole."

The Aztec would rip out a living heart and then play baseball with it for a lyric like that.
