Well, despite the likelihood that the Stones destroy Styx in this poll, I couldn't resist.

Btw...I like Styx a lot better in general.

I can't believe there are two STYX polls on the front page. I am seeing STYX in my own backyard in 9 days!

STYX BLOWS THE STONES AWAY!!!

HA HA HA I just voted for the Stones. I can't even believe people would put Styx in the same stratosphere as the Rolling Stones.

I prefer Styx because it tends to be more light hearted and more complex in a proggish sense. I don't think many that have voted for Styx have done so in order to suggest that Styx is a more important band.

And this is one reason I truly love this board. One of the 5 most influential rock bands of all time (arguably, one of the two) is slugging it out with, well, Styx.

What do the Stones have that goes toe to toe with this epicness?

Odd combo. One is not like the other at all in any way. I like the Stones, BTW. I know they are not popular here on the forum, and I will probably not understand why anytime soon. Like them or not they will always be known as one of the greatest bands ever. Yeay! :notworthy:

They're not "mathy" enough for a lot of us RUSH fans.

But what about Keef? He is like an indestructible god-like creature of the universe. He is a scientific enigma. For that alone there should some respect :codger: :notworthy:

The Rolling Stones will go down as one of the great musical acts ever. Decades from now, their songs will be played and their influence in musical history will be discussed. Those who dismiss them make me shake my head. Exile on Main Street, Beggars Banquet, Let It Bleed etc etc. Styx has created NOTHING that comes even remotely close. As soon as Styx finishes their current Vegas casino circuit act (talk about parodies!), they will become a forgotten foot note in musical history. Yes the Stones are past their prime, but the last time I saw them a few years back, the live show was better than 99% of the other shows I have seen in recent years. There is a reason they have been around for 50+ years. There are very few acts that hang around for 30+ years that can remain nearly as relevant as they once were. Rush may be one of the few that were able to do that. An argument could be made for U2 - although they lost me long ago, I still would not deny their place in music history. The Stones may not be your thing - hey this is a Rush forum - could two bands be more different? But please do not try and compare them to Styx

Music is subjective. On a board for a band like Rush you will have a band like Styx perform better in a poll against a band like the Stones then one might think. I have great respect for The Rolling Stones and their history, but I'm not a big fan. I prefer the music of Styx to the Stones. That being said, only a fool would compare the bands on the subject of legacy and place in music history.

And I'm no fool. I'm comparing them on the basis of nursery rhymes! Or is this a Nursery Cryme? A Musical pandora's Box? Sticks from The Giant Hogweed against The Seven rolling Stones? :P
