Krystal Posted June 28, 2019 Posted June 28, 2019 I thought I replied to this thread but my post disappeared. I haven't watched this series yet but I read the book. I'm a huge Margaret Atwood fan. I read a dozen of her novels and met her twice.

I'm a huge Margaret Atwood fan. I read a dozen of her novels and met her twice. The show is amazing. Updates many themes for a more present day, realistic sense of fear. Margaret Atwood has a blink and you'll miss it cameo in the first season, and approved the direction the show headed in (but her sequel novel, in September, won't follow the plot of season 2).
Chicken hawk Posted July 3, 2019 Posted July 3, 2019 I love it...May not understand the whole situations but the drama is great.
Mosher Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 The character work remains superb. There's a bit of Game-of-Thrones style decline, though, as the show runners contrive situations that seem to flow inconsistently with per-established narratives. I'm having trouble with the idea that Canada or anywhere else in the west would feel pressured by Gilead to do anything. How many fronts would Gilead open? They're already at war, and the earlier presumption has been that the United States is giving a good fight. Good enough that Canada has felt no qualms at accepting refugees. Now we're to accept that Canada and the West feel Gilead is too powerful to face? And filming themselves in a light that offends the nations they are imploring for help is nonsensical. I don't believe Gilead would be flaunting the very thing Canada et al find offensive as they plea for the return of a single infant. Canada feeling pressure would have been a great storyline if it hadn't already been established that they felt no pressure. A lot of other dramatic conveniences exist as well- Nick's rank's a bit high, June escapes all the hardest punishments, Fred is teased with grand rewards right after being sunk to embarrassing depths, etc. The writing isn't tight anymore. But the character work is still BRILLIANT. I still love the show, I just worry about it.

Segue Myles Posted July 20, 2019 Posted July 20, 2019 what a waste of an episode last night I didn't find it a waste entirely, but...I felt a little like we may have just watched the worst episode yet. Not everything worked (Serena gets cut and...just walks away?).

Mosher Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 I agree, the season is getting much much better.
Segue Myles Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 The final episode was phenomenal. But I have to say, that opening flashback is the single most distressing and disturbing scene I've yet scene. Were those disabled women and babies being loaded onto a truck to be torn apart by dogs?

J2112YYZ Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 (edited) I can't recall too many times where I am unable to put into words how much I enjoy a TV show like I do this one. Edited August 16, 2019 by J2112YYZ 1
Segue Myles Posted August 17, 2019 Posted August 17, 2019 I can't recall too many times where I am unable to put into words how much I enjoy a TV show like I do this one. I can't even call it "enjoyment" but it's become my all time favourite show. I thought season 3 was weaker then when the finale finished I was like "oh...they know EXACTLY what they are doing". I recommend it with caution, as for me I have been triggered into anxiety attacks numerous times. But it's far too f***ing clever to ignore and there has NEVER been anything like it, and what's even more amazing is it's made for some of the best conversation I've ever had. 2

I thought we'd always be left to read between the lines what happened to these people.
Syrinx Posted August 19, 2019 Posted August 19, 2019 Outstanding! Was that the final episode of the season?
Segue Myles Posted August 19, 2019 Posted August 19, 2019 Outstanding! Was that the final episode of the season? Yeah
Mosher Posted August 19, 2019 Posted August 19, 2019 Just watched the finale. This season ended very strong after a frustrating beginning. Even though June consistently avoids punishments others receive, and as convenient as that is, the importance of this show Can't be ignored. This is an important show. So is OITNB, and it ended much better that the previous two years.
Mosher Posted August 21, 2019 Posted August 21, 2019 Orange is the New black. Excellent at times, stupid at times. In my opinion ended very well
