No, they never had any appeal on me, though I like 3 songs by them.

I could never get into their music style and artistic feature. Give me Depeche Mode, The Smiths and Joy Division over them anytime.

What you say?

One of the greatest bands of all time and one of the most emotionally powerful.

Due to the fact they soundtracked the years I was abused I sadly can't play them anymore as it triggers severe anxiety.

But I do treat myself to Disintegration about once a year. It does wash me out though.

It's not the bands fault. I just love them so much!

I'm not a big fan myself, but I really liked the Disintegration album a lot. Their sound appeals to me, it's just something I don't dabble in as much as other bands within that sound circle that's more personal and relevant to me.

I liked their first album a lot, but that's it.

EDIT: correction, just checked - it was actually their second album that I liked. Not sure I ever heard the first one.

I saw them in 1989, and at the time, I wasn't too familiar with their music ..

I was blown away - one of the best live bands I have ever seen .. Been a fan ever since, and Plainsong still brings on this emotional wave whenever I hear it

I was a huge fan of their early stuff, esp Seventeen Seconds and Faith. Head on the Door is a Moving Pictures level album. They were up their with my very favorite bands for a few years in the early/mid '80s. Fell away from Kiss Me... on, but still love their early minimalist sound, and the run from Japanese Whispers through Head... (IOW, Pornography was only stumble, but it had some good tracks, like A Strange Day). Primary and The Forest earlier... great picks.

For me, The Cure, Cocteau Twins, New Order and The Smiths were the four pillars of the early/mid '80s Brit alt scene. Many other great bands -- PIL, P-Furs, The Clash, my personal fave Wire, etc. etc. -- but these four defined that era for me.

Maybe my favorite, at least from Head on the Door

Yes, I like what I know of them. Some of their catalogue I haven't heard (well, a good bit, as I haven't heard anything they've done in the 21st century). I listened to them a good deal from about 1987-'88 up through the first half of the '90s.

They are one of the original bands who embodied the 'alternative' tag, back when that term first entered the vernacular, in about 1989. (Jane's Addiction was another).

And Robert Smith is an incredible songwriter.

Their music is hit or miss for me.

The downer vibe can get to me after a while, but I find that the music is always solid. The Kiss Me... double album is the only one I actually own.
