^ Ranking AFTK with those others at the bottom cracks me up. Not that I have a problem with it, I just find it funny that we all have such different tastes like Segue putting Signals at the bottom.

Neil de Grasse Tyson (if I got the name right) had tweeted that we need a county called "Rationalia" (I think that was it) inhabited by rational, reasonable people who would all agree on the rational and reasonable thing. I mean it must be obvious, right? (That last bit was sarcasm). He's a good physicist I guess (makes for good tv anyway), but he needs to read up on epistemology. IOW, I think it's normal that reasonable people will always have different perceptions. If not so, there would be only one school of economics, and these Rush lists would be dull in their sameness.

:goodone:

I am puzzled by the intense popularity of AFTK. Other than a cool album cover, Xanadu and Closer to the Heart, I find it to be a very ambitious but clumsily executed effort. On the other hand, I absolutely love Caress of Steel and Presto. so there you go.

I feel very much the same way about AFTK. It just seem really messy. Xanadu and Cygnus X-1 are really good, but past that it's a mixed bag. Ambitious, but needed a bit more work.

Funny how that goes. I'm not so big on Side A of Hemi, beyond the prelude...or overture...or whatever the first four minutes is called Edited by goose

Looks like the album-ranking thing is done about once a year, which isn't all that often. For long time TRFers, have your rankings shifted in any of these polls?

Yeah I get the feelings like this towards Hemispheres.

Honestly their really progressive period generates some incredibly varied opinions! The only general consensus I have ever been able to find is that 2112 (the song), Xanadu, and Permanent Waves are universally loved.

I admit to only loving Xanadu off AFTK but think the rest of it was really good just not my thing. At the very least it sets the stage for Hemi, like CoS paved the way for 2112.

Feel the same way as Goose about side 1 of Hemi (at least after the 3000th listen), but side 2 of Hemi is supernaturally good Rush.

IMO, Rush have written fewer individual songs that are better than The Trees.

I just don't think Rush are very good at prog. 2112 works for me because I love the story and it all works amazingly. Otherwise...they excel at songs around the ten minute and under mark but their longer pieces are pretty shoddy.

But whatever. I'm sure some one would be happy to point at an aspect of my music taste to use against me like they have many times before lol

I was explaining the first few. Vapor Trails, Snakes and Arrows over Permanent Waves. Presto I enjoy for some reason I don't know why, and the same for Roll the Bones.

Placing Test for Echo ahead of Moving Pictures and Permanent Waves should get you banned.

Placing Presto ahead of Signals might be a crime. :)

Hmm. I can't really think of Hemispheres as metal. At least not as close as 2112 or Cygnus X-1 Book I.

I don't think Rush wrote an album so heavy (for its time) until somewhere between Counterparts and Vapor Trails.

Still. RTB and Presto over Hemispheres? :laughing guy:

Side 2 is pretty heavy, IMO.
