The pioneers you quote - Grandmaster Flash, Sugar Hill Gang etc in the 80's all had a message of love and tolerance and for the people who are disadvantaged to all come together and fight against the oppressors in the same way that Bob Marley and the Reggae movement preached love and togetherness.

 

In recent years it just seems to be some sort of aggressive thing that white middle class kids can cotton on to be a bit "rebellious" until they go through college and then become real estate agents or hedge fund managers. It bears no resemblance to the original ethos of the rap artists of the early 80's.

I found it through your link to that Rushgoobie mega thread. I didn't look through the whole thing though. As with beasts of that size, I browse the first 3 pages and the last 3 looking for signs of comedy. I came across Pars' quote on page 80 and remembered what he said earlier in THIS thread.

 

What I didn't remember is that the Rushgoobie thread was 80+ pages long!

Yeah that thread was a no-brainer with a lot of comments from some Low-Brainers (incl. me). It all started very slow, but went wild within a few days and one of the best YBG fictional stories evolved from this thread. Just epic. I can't remember all the details right now but at some point in the story, Goober was seen eating Michael Jackson's nose. :smoke:

Strong, out-of-this-world stuff, but all meant for good fun. Sadly goobs didn't join in and the rest is history.

Meh, I'm doomed to never find another band like Rush.

 

Iron Maiden just wrapped up about 6 hours ago at the same venue I saw Such Rush exactly 2 years and 5 days ago.

 

I was all excited to get there and it persisted until showtime. Ghost was the opener and let's just say they seem a bit too try hard with the gimmick and don't put much enthusiasm into their act.

 

Maiden on the other hand was great. I haven't purchased one of their albums since A Matter of Life and Death. After sampling their newer songs The Trooper followed Powerslave came up and kept me on my toes the rest of the show.

 

Other than that I didn't feel anywhere near as enthused or amped this time around, except for arriving at the venue and aside from the familiarity of the location, the way the sky looked as the sun began to set immediately reminded me of a picture one of my friends snapped of the sky from the parking lot of R40.

 

After coming home and looking at videos and admiring my "Killers" Book of Souls shirt I just feel dissatisfied, like a big chunk of something was missing. :(
