He's a brilliant drummer..have a listen to Songs for the Deaf by QOTSA if you need convincing.

That's the first thing that popped into my head. Great playing on that.

he's a good drummer who plays for the song. but as far as overrated or underrated, he's neither. he's not even really known as a drummer anymore in rock circles. he's nobody's favorite, nobody's least favorite either

if you've heard the probot side project or his work with queens of the stone age, you'll see that he's capable of playing beyond what's required for nirvana.

On the majority of lists I saw he is in top 10.

I think as a rock drummer he is slightly above average and definitely doesn't deserve to be on any list of top 10.

What do you think, is this guy overrated?

Dave has great energy and power but his chops are basic and boring.

He can't sing either yet ironically he's the most talented one out of NIRVANA.

Also a RUSH fan so I respect him.

I was there on that sacred night when Dave and Taylor inducted the boys.

One of the greatest moments of my life.

FOO FIGHTERS SUCK!

Overhyped not overrated.

From what i can see he is a fine player. I still feel he is overhyped as a darling of the music media.

I think he's earned the attention by virtue of his personality and productivity. One of the few things I think the media have got just about right.

Found this hard to believe, so I looked around for myself:

LA Weekly - #7 http://www.laweekly....ll-time-5199372

Total Drumsets - #92 http://www.totaldrum...k-drummers.html

Loudwire - #10 http://loudwire.com/...otogallery-1=59

The Richest - #9 http://www.theriches...rs-of-all-time/

User-voted:

The Top Tens - #6 http://www.thetopten...-rock-drummers/

Alright then :eh:

...I don't remember hearing anything amazing from him back when I listened to Nirvana quite a lot (when I was 14) but I guess I'll have to revisit and pay more attention. Signs point to "overrated" :)

He is a great rock drummer but top ten all time?? No way. And i am a big fan of everything he has done, but seriously if you can't come up with 10 better rock drummers something is wrong.

Listen to his work on the self titled Killing Joke album. :haz:
